jo brahman vedoan ke svadhyay se sampann, atyant tapasvi tatha yajn ke anushthan mean laga hua ho, vahi in gauoan ke dan ka sarvottam patr hai. inake siva jo brahman krichchhr vrat se mukt hue hoan aur parivar ki pushti ke liye godan ke prarthi hokar aye hoan, ve bhi dan ke uttam patr haian. in suyogy patroan ko nimitt banakar dan mean di gayi shreshth gauean uttam mani gayi haian. tin rat tak upavasapoorvak keval jal pikar dharati par shayan kare. tatpashh‍chat khila-pilakar tript ki huee gauoan ko bhojan adi se santusht kiye hue brahmanoan ko dan karean. ve gauean bachh doan ke sath rahakar prasann hoan, sundar bachche dene vali hoan tatha anyany avashh‍yak samagriyoan se yukt hoan. aisi gauoan ka dan karake tin dinoan tak keval gauras ka ahar karake rahana chahiye.

nachiket kahata hai- vaivasvat yam ki bat sunakar maianne punah unase poochha- 'bhagavan! yadi abhavavash godan n kiya ja sake to godan karane valoan ko hi milane vale lokoan mean manushy kaise ja sakata hai?' tadanantar buddhiman yamaraj ne godan sambandhi gati tatha godan ke saman phal dene vale dan ka varnan kiya, jisake anusar bina gay ke bhi log godan karane vale ho sakate haian? jo gauoan ke abhav mean sanyam-niyam se yukt ho ghritadhenu ko dan karata hai, usake liye ye ghritavahini nadiyaan vatsala gauoan ki bhaanti ghrit bahati haian.
