yudhishthir dvara apane prashnoan ka uchit uttar pakar santusht hue sarparoopadhari nahush ka bhimasen ko chho d dena tatha yudhishthir ke sath vartalap karane ke prabhav se sarpayoni se mukt hokar svarg jana

yudhishthir ne poochha- tum sampoorn ved-vedaang ke paragami ho. lok mean tumhari aisi hi khyati hai. batao, kis karm ke acharan se sarvottam gati prapt ho sakati hai?

sarp ne kaha- bharat! is vishay mean mera vichar yah hai ki manushy satpatr ko dan dene se, saty aur priy vachan bolane se tatha ahiansa-dharm mean tatpar rahane se svarg (uttam gati) pa sakata hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- nagaraj! dan aur saty mean kisaka pal da bhari dekha jata hai? ahiansa aur priyabhashan-inamean se kisaka mahattv adhik hai aur kisaka kam? yah batao.

sarp ne kaha- maharaj! dan, saty-tattv, ahiansa aur priyabhashan-inaki guruta aur laghuta kary ki mahatta ke anusar dekhi jati hai. rajendr! kisi dan se saty ka hi mahattv badh jata hai aur koee-koee dan hi satyabhashan se adhik mahattv rakhata hai. mahanh dhanurdhar bhoopal! usi prakar kahian to priy vachan ki apeksha ahiansa ka gaurav adhik dekha jata hai aur kahian ahiansa se bhi badhakar priyabhashan ka mahattv drishtigochar hota hai. rajanh! is prakar inake gaurav-laghav ka nishchay kary ki apeksha se hi hota hai. ab aur jo kuchh bhi prashn tumhean abhisht ho, vah poochho. maian yathasambhav utar deta hooan.

yudhishthir ne poochha- sarp! manushy ko svarg ki prapti aur karmoan ka nishchayaroop se milane vala phal kis prakar dekhane mean ata hai evan dehabhiman se rahit purush ki gati kis prakar hoti hai? in vishayoan ko mujhase bhalibhaanti kahiye.

sarp ne kaha- rajanh! apane-apane karmoan ke anusar jivoan ki tin prakar ki gatiyaan dekhi jati haian- svargalok ki prapti, manushy yoni mean janm lena aur pashu-pakshi adi yoniyoan mean (tatha narakoan) utpann hona.[1] bas, ye tin hi yoniyaan haian. inamean se jo jiv manushy-yoni mean utpann hota hai, par yadi alasy aur pramad ka tyag karake ahiansa ka palan karate hue dan adi shubh karm karata hai, to use in puny karmoan ke karan svargalok ki prapti hoti hai. rajendr! isake viparit karan upasthit hone par manushyayoni mean tatha pashu-pakshiyoan adi ki yoni mean janm lena p data hai. tath! pashu-pakshi adi yoniyoan mean janm lene ka jo vishesh karan hai, use bhi yahaan batalaya jata hai. jo kam, krodh, lobh aur hiansa mean tatpar hokar manavata se bhrasht ho jata hai, apani manushy hone ki yogyata ko bhi kho deta hai, vahi pashu-pakshi adi yoniyoan mean janm pata hai. phir manushy janm ki prapti ke liye usaka tiryakayoni se uddhar hota hai. gauoan tatha ashvoan ko bhi us yoni se chhutakara milakar devatv ki prapti hoti hai, yah bat dekhi jati hai.

tat! prayojanavash vahi yah jiv inhian tin gatiyoan mean bhatakata rahata hai. karmaphal ko chahane vala dehabhimani sukh ka upabhog karata hai. kiantu tat! jo karmaphal mean asakt nahian hai, vah prajajanoan ke palan ki bhavana vala dvij apane atma ko nity parabrahm paramatma mean bhalibhaanti sthit kar deta hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- sarp! shabd, sparsh, roop, ras tatha gandh-inaka adhar kya hai? ap shaantachitt hokar ise yatharth roop se bataiye. mahamate! pannagashreshth! man vishayoan ka ek hi sath grahan kyoan nahian karata? in uparyukt sab batoan ko bataiye.

sarp ne kaha- ayushmanh! sthool, sookshm aur karan shariroan ka ashray lene vala aur indriyoan se yukt jo atma namak dravy hai, vahi vidhipoorvak nana prakar ke bhogoan ko bhogata hai. bharatashreshth! jnan, buddhi aur man-ye hi sharir mean usake karan samajho. tat! paanchoan vishayoan ke adharabhoot panchabhootoan se bane hue sharir mean sthit jivatma is sharir mean sthit hua hi man ke dvara kramashah in paanchoan vishayoan ka upabhog karata hai.
