markanhdey ji kahate haian- bharat! is prakar dharmavyadh dvara sookshhm tathv ka niroopan hone par kaushik brahman ne ekagrachitt hokar pun: ek sookshhm prashn upasthit kiya. brahman bola- vhyadh! yahaan yathochit roop se ek prashn upasthit karata hooan. vah yah hai ki sathv, raj aur tam ka gun (shvaroop) khya hai? yah mujhe yatharth roop se batao. dharmavhyadh ne kaha- brahmanh! ap mujhase jo bat poochh rahe haian, maian ab use kahooanga. sathv, raj aur tam-in tinoan gunoan ka prithakh-prithakh varnan karata hooan, suniye. in tinoan gunoan mean jo tamogun hai, vah mohathmak moh uthpann karane vala hai. rajogun karmoan mean pravritt karane vala hai. parantu sathvagun mean prakash ki bahulata hai, isaliye vah sabase shreshhth kaha jata hai. jisamean ajnan ki bahulata hai, jo moodh (mohagrasht) aur achet hokar sada niand leta rahata hai, jisaki indriyaan vash mean n hone ke karan dooshit haian, jo aviveki, krodhi aur alasi hai, aise manushhy ko tamoguni janana chahiye. brahmarshe! jo pravrittimarg ki hi batean karane vala, salah dene mean kushal aur doosaroan ke gunoan mean dosh n dekhane vala hai; jo sada kuchh-n-kuchh karane ki ichhchha rakhata hai, jisamean kathorata aur abhiman ki adhikata hai, vah manushhyoan par rob jamane vala purush rajoguni kaha gaya hai. jisamean prakash (jnan) ki bahulata hai, jo dhir aur naye-naye kary aramhbh karane ki uthsukata se rahit hai, jisamean doosaroan ke dosh dekhane ki pravritti ka abhav hai, jo krodhashoonhy, buddhiman aur jitendriy hai, vah manushhy sattvik mana jata hai. sattvik purush jnanasamhpann ho rajogun aur tamogun ke karyabhoot laukik vhyavahar mean p dane ka kashht nahian uthata. jab janane yoghy tathv ko jan leta hai, tab use saansarik vyavahar se ghlani ho jati hai. sattvik purush mean vairaghy ka lakshan pahale hi prakat ho jata hai. usaka ahankar dhila p d jata hai aur saralata prakash mean ane lagati hai. tadananhtar isake rag-dvesh adi samhpoorn dvanhdv parashpar shanht ho jate hai. isake hriday mean kabhi koee sanshay nahian uthata. brahmanh! shoodrayoni mean uthpann manushhy bhi yadi uttam gunoan ka ashray le, to vah vaishhy tatha kshatriy bhav ko prapht kar leta hai. jo ‘saratala’ namak gun mean pratishthit hai, use brahmanathv prapht ho jata hai. brahmanh! is prakar maianne apase samhpoorn gunoan ka varnan kiya hai, ab aur khya sunana chahate haian.
is prakar shrimahabharat vanaparv ke anhtargat markanhdeyasamashyaparv mean brahman-vhyadh sanvad vishayak do sau barahavaan adhhyay poora hua.
