raja ke dharmapoorvak achar ke vishay mean vamadevaji ka vasumana ko upadesh

yudhishthir ne poochha-kurooshreshth pitamah! dharmatma raja yadi dharm mean sthit rahana chahe to use kis prakar bartav karana chahiye ? yah maian ap se poochhata hooan; ap mujhe bataiye. bhishmaji ne kaha-rajan! is vishay mean log tattvajnani mahatma vamadevaji dvara diye hue upadesh roop ek prachin itihas ka udaharan diya karate haian. vasumana namak ek prasiddh raja ho gaye haian, jo jnaravan, dhairyavan aur pavitr achar-vichar vale unhoanne ek din tapasvi maharshi vamadevaji se poochha-‘bhagavanh! maian kis bartav ka palan karata rahooan, jisase apane dharm se kabhi n girooan. ap apane arth aur dharmayukt vachanoan dvara mujhean isi bat ka upadesh dijiye‘. tab tapasvi purushoan mean shreshth tejasvi maharshi vamadev ne nahushaputr yayati ke saman sukhapoorvak baithe hue suvarn ki-si kanti vale raja vasumana se kaha. vamadev ji bole-rajanh! tum dharm ka hi anusaran karo. dharm se badhakar doosari koee vastu nahian hai; kyoanki dharm mean sthit rahane vale raja is sari prithvi ko jit lete haian. jo bhoopal dharm ko arth-siddhi ki apeksha bhi b da manata hai aur usi ko badhane mean apane man aur buddhi ka upayog karata hai, vah dharm ke karan b di shobha pata hai. isake viparit jo raja adharm par hi drishti rakhakar balapoorvak usamean pravritt hota hai, use dharm aur arth donoan purusharth shighr chho dakar chal dete haian. jo dusht evan papishth mantriyoan ki sahayata se dharm ko hani pahuanchata hai, vah sab logoan ka vadhy ho jata hai aur apane parivar ke sath hi shighr sankatamean p d jata hai.

jo raja arth-siddhi ki cheshta nahian karata aur svechchhachari ho badh-badhakar batean banata hai, vah sari prithvi ka rajy pakar bhi shighr hi nasht ho jata hai. parantu jo kalyanakari gunoan ko grahan karane vala, anindak, jitendriy aur buddhiman hota hai, vah raja usi prakar vriddhi ko prapt hota hai, jaise nadiyoan ke pravah se samudr. raja ko chahiye ki vah sada dharm, arth, kam, buddhi aur mitroan se samman hone par bhi kabhi apane ko poorn n mane-sada un sabake sangrah ko badhane ki hi cheshta kare. raja ki jivan yatra inhian saboan par avalambit hai. in sabako sunane aur grahan karane se raja ko yash, kirti, lakshmi aur praja ki prapti hoti hai. jo is prakar dharm ke prati agrah rakhane vala evan dharm aur arth ka chintan karane vala hai tatha arth par bhalibhaanti vichar karake usaka sevan karata hai, vah nishchay hi mahanh phal ka bhagi hota hai. jo duahsahasi, dan n dene vala aur snehashoony tatha dand ke dvara praja ko bar-bar satata hai, vah raja shighr hi nasht ho jata hai. jo buddhihin raja pap karake bhi apani buddhi ke dvara apane ko papi nahian samajhata, vah is lok mean apakirti se kalankit ho paralok mean narak ka bhagi hota hai. jo sabaka man karane vala, dani, snehayukt tatha doosaroan ke vashavarti hokar rahata hai, us par yadi koee sankat a jay to sab log use apana hi sankat manakar usako mitane ki cheshta karate haian. jisako dharm ke vishay mean shiksha dene vala koee guru nahian hai aur jo doosaroan se bhi kuchh nahian poochhata hai tatha dhan mil jane par sukhabhog mean asakt ho jata hai, vah dirghakal tak sukh nahian bhog pata hai. jo dharm ke vishay mean guru ko pradhan manakar unake upadesh ke anusar chalata hai, jo svayan hi arth-sambandhi sare karyoan ko dekhata hai tatha sab prakar ke labhoan mean dharm ko hi pradhan labh samajhata hai, vah chirakal tak sukh ka upabhog karata hai.
