arjun ka raja janak aur unaki rani ka drishtant dete hue yudhishthir ko sannyas grahan karane se rokana

vaishampayan ji kahate haian- janamejay! jab raja yudhishthir aisa kahakar chup ho gaye, tab raja ke bagbanoan se pi dit ho shok aur duahkh se santapt hue arjun phir unase bole.

arjun ne kaha- bharat! vijn purush videharaj janak aur unaki rani ka sanvadaroop yah prachin itihas kaha karate haian. ek samay raja janak ne bhi rajy chho dakar bhiksha se jivan-nirvah kar lene ka nishchay kar liya tha. us samay videharaj ki maharani ne dukhi hokar jo kuchh kaha tha, vahi apako suna raha hooan. kahate haian ek din raja janak par moodhata chha gayi aur ve dhan, santan, stri, nana prakar ke ratn, sanatan marg aur agnihotr ka bhi tyag karake aankachan ho gaye. unhoanne bhikshu-vritti apana li aur ve mutthibhar bhuna hua jau khakar rahane lage. unhoanne is prakar ki cheshtaean chho d dian. unake man mean kisi ke prati eershya ka bhav nahian rah gaya tha. is prakar nirbhay sthiti mean pahuche hue apane svami ko unaki bharya ne dekha aur unake pas akar kupit huee us manasvini evan priy rani ne ekant mean yah yuktiyukt bat kahi- 'rajanh! apane dhan-dhany se sampann apana rajy chho dakar yah khap da lekar bhikh maangane ka dhandha kaise apana liya? yah mutthibhar jau apako shobha nahian de raha hai. nareshvar! apaki pratijna to kuchh aur thi aur cheshta kuchh aur hi dikhayi deti hai.

bhoopal! apane vishal rajy chho dakar tho di-si vastu mean santosh kar liya. rajanh! is mutthibhar jau se devataoan, rrishiyoan, pitaroan tatha atithiyoan ka ap bharan-poshan nahian kar sakate, atah apaka yah parishram vyarth hai. prithvinath! ap sampoorn devataoan, atithiyoan aur pitaroan se parityakt hokar akarmany ho ghar chho d rahe haian. tinoan vedoan ke jnan mean badhe़-chadhe़ sahasroan brahmanoan tatha is sampoorn jagath ka bharan-poshan karane vale hokar bhi aj ap unhian ke dvara apana bharan-poshan chahate haian. is jagamagati huee rajalakshmi ko chho dakar is samay ap dar-dar bhatakane vale kutte ke saman dikhayi dete haian. aj apake jite-ji apaki mata putrahin aur yah abhagini kaushalya patihin ho gayi. ye dharm ki ichchha rakhane vale kshatriy jo sada apaki seva mean baithe rahate haian, apase b di-b di ashaean rakhate haian, in becharoan ko seva ka phal chahiye.
