grihash‍th ke dharmoan ka rahash‍y, pratigrah dosh batane ke liye vrishadarbhi aur saph‍tarshiyoan ki katha, bhikshuroopadhari inh‍dr ke dvara krith‍ya ka vadh karake saph‍tarshiyoan ki raksha tatha kamaloan ki chori ke vishay mean shapath khane ke bahane se dharmapalan ka sanket

yudhishthir ne poochha- pitamah! yadi vratadhari vipr kisi brahman ki ichchha poorn karane ke liye usake ghar shraddh ka ann bhojan kar le to ise ap kaisa manate haian? (apane vrat ka lop karana uchit hai ya brahman ki prarthana asvikar karana)

bhishm ji ne kaha- yudhishthir! jo vedokt vrat ka palan nahian karate, ve brahman ki ichchhapoorti ke liye shraddh mean bhojan kar sakate haian; kiantu jo vaidik vrat ka palan kar rahe hoan, ve yadi kisi ke anurodh se shraddh ka ann grahan karate haian to unaka vrat bhang ho jata hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- pitamah! sadharan log jo upavas ko hi tap kaha karate haian, usake sambandh mean apaki kya dharana hai? maian yah janana chahata hooan ki vastav mean upavas hi tap hai ya usaka aur koee svaroop hai.

bhishm ji ne kaha- rajan! jo log pandrah din ya ek mahine tak upavas karake use tapasya manate haian, ve vyarth hi apane sharir ko kasht deete haian. vastav mean keval upavas karane vale n tapasvi haian, n dharmajn. tyag ka sanpadan hi sabase uttam tapasya hai. brahman ko sada upavasi (vrataparayan), brahmachari, muni aur vedoan ka svadhyayi hona chahiye. dharmapalan ki ichchha se hi usako stri adi kutamb ka sangrah karana chahiye (vishay bhog ke liye nahian). brahman ko uchit hai ki vah sada jagrat rahe, maans kabhi n khaye, pavitr bhav se sada ved ka path kare, sada saty bhashan kare aur indriyoan ko sanyam mean rakhe. usako sada amritashi, vighasashi aur atithipriy tatha sada pavitr rahana chahiye.

yudhishthir ne poochha- prithvinath! brahman kaise sada upavasi aur brahmachari hove? tatha kis prakar vighasashi evan atithipriy ho sakata hai?

bhishm ji ne kaha- yudhishthir! jo manushy keval pratahkal aur saanyakal hi bhojan karata hai, bich mean kuchh nahian khata, use sada upavasi samajhana chahiye. jo keval rritukal mean dharmapath‍ni ke sath sahavas karata hai, vah brahmachari hi mana jata hai. sada dan dene vala purush satyavadi hi samajhane yogy hai. jo maans nahian khata, vah amaansashi hota hai aur jo sada dan dene vala hai, vah pavitr mana jata hai. jo din mean nahian sota, vah sada jagane vala mana jata hai. yudhishthir! jo sada bhrityoan (poshyavarg) aur atithiyoan ke bhojan karane ke bad hi sh‍vayan bhojan karata hai, use keval amrit bhojan karane vala (amritashi) samajhana chahiye. jab tak brahman bhojan nahian kar le, tab tak jo ann grahan nahian karata, vah manushh‍y apane us vrat ke dvara svargalok par vijay pata hai.

nareshh‍var! jo devataoan, pitaroan aur ashritoan ko bhojan karane ke bad bache hue ann ka hi svayan bhojan karata hai, use vighasashi kahate haian. un manushyoan ko brahmadham mean akshay lokoan ki prapti hoti hai tatha gandharvoan sahit apsaraean unaki seva mean upasthit hoti haian. jo devata aur atithiyoan sahit pitaroan ke liye ann ka bhag dekar sh‍vayan bhojan karate haian, ve is jagat mean putr-pautroan ke sath rahakar anand bhogate haian aur mrityu ke pashchat unhean param uttam gati prapt hoti hai.
