saty-asaty ka vivechan, dharm ka lakshan tatha vyavaharik niti ka varnan


yudhishthir ne poochha- bharatanandan! dharm me sthit rahane ki ichchha vala manushy kaisa bartav kare? vidvan! maian is bat ko janana chahata hooan. bharat shreshth! ap mujhase isaka varnan kijiye. rajan! saty aur asaty ye donoan sampoorn jagat ko vyapt karake sthit haian; kintu dharm par vishvas karane vala manushy in donoan mean se kisaka acharan kare. kya saty hai aur kya jhooth? tatha kaun sa kary sanatan dharm ke anukool hai? kis samay saty bolana chahiye aur kis samay jhooth? bhishmaji ne kaha- bharat! saty bolana achchha hai. saty se badhakar doosara koee dharm nahian hai; parantu lok mean jise janana atyant kathin hai, usi ko maian bata raha hooan. jahaan jhooth hi saty ka kam kare (kisi prani ko sankat se bachave) athava saty hi jhooth ban jay ( kisi ke jivan ko sankat mean dal de); aise avasaroan par saty nahian bolana chahiye. vahaan jhooth bolana hi uchit hai.

jisamean saty sthir n hoan, aisa moorkh manushy hi mara jata hai. saty aur asaty ka palan karane vala purush hi dharmajn mana jata hai. jo nich hai, jisaki buddhi shuddh nahian hai tatha jo atyant kathor svabhav ka hai, vah manushy bhi kabhi aandhe pashu ko marane vale balak namak vyadh ki bhaanti mahan puny prapt kar leta haian[1] kaisa ashchary hai ki dharm ki ichchha rakhane vala moorkh (tapasvi) (saty bolakar bhi) adharm ke phal ko prapt ho jata hai. (karn parv adhyay) aur ganga ke tat par rahane vale ek ulloo ki bhaanti koee (hiansa karake bhi) mahanh puny prapt kar leta hai. yudhishthir! tumhara yah pichhala prashn bhi aisa hi hai. isake anusar dharm ke svaroop ka vivechan karana ya samajhana bahut kathin hai; isiliye usaka pratipadan karana bhi dushkar hi hai; atah dharm ke vishay mean koee kis prakar nishchay kare? praniyoan ke abhyuday aur kalyan ke liye hi dharm ka pravachan kiya gaya hai; atah jo is uddeshy se yukt ho arthath jisase abhyuday aur niahshreyas siddh hote hoan, vahi dharm hai, aisa shastravettaoan ka nishchay haian. dharm ka nam ’dharman’ isaliye p da hai ki vah sabako dharan karata haian- adhogati mean jane se bachata hai aur jivan ki raksha karata hai. dharm ne hi sari praja ko dharan kar rakha hai; atah jisase dharan aur poshan siddh hota ho, vahi dharm hai; aisa dharmanvettaoan ka nishchay hai. praniyoan ki hiansa n ho, isake liye dharm ka upadesh kiya gaya hai; atah jo ahiansa se yukt ho, vahi dharm hai, aisa dharmaantmaoan ka nishchay haian.

rajan! kurushreshth! ahiansa, saty, akrodh, tapasya, dan, man aur indriyoan ka sanyam, vishuddh buddhi, kisi ke dosh n dekhana, kisi se dah aur jalan n rakhana tatha uttam shilasvabhav ka parichay dena-ye dharm hai, devadhidev parameshthi brahmaji ne inhian ko sanatan dharm bataya hai. jo manushy is sanatan dharm me sthit hai, use hi kalyan ka darshan hota hai. ved mean jisaka pratipadan kiya gaya hai, vahi dharm hai, yah ek shreni ke vidvanoan ka mat hai; kiantu doosare log dharm ka yah lakshan nahian svikar karate haian. ham kisi bhi ved mean sabhi batoan ka vidhan nahi hai.
