charoan varnoan ke alag-alag karmoan ka aur sadachar ka varnan tatha vairagy se parabrahm ki prapti bharadvaj ne poochha- vakhtaoan mean shreshth brahmarshe! dvijottam! ab mujhe yah bataiye ki manushhy kaun-sa karm karane se brahman, kshatriy, vaishhv athava shoodr hota hai? bhrigu ji ne kaha- jo jati, karm adi sanskaroan se sampann, pavitr tatha vedoan ke svadhhyay mean sanlagn hai, (yajan-yajan, adhhyayanadhhyapan aur dan–pratigrah–in) chh: karmoan mean sthit rahata hai, shauch evan sadachar ka palan tatha param uttam yajnashisht ann ka bhojan karata hai, guru ke prati prem rakhata, nity vrat ka palan karata tatha saty mean tatpar rahata hai, vahi brahman kahalata hai. jisamean saty, dan, droh n karane ka bhav, kroorata ka abhav, lajja, daya aur tap- ye sadgun dekhe jate haian, vah brahman mana gaya hai. jo kshatriyochit yuddh adi karm ka sevan karata hai, vedoan ke adhhyayan mean laga rahata hai, brahmanoan ko dan deta hai aur praja se kar lekar usaki raksha karata hai, vah kshatriy kahalata hai. isi prakar jo vedadhhyayan se sampann hokar vyapar, pashupalan aur kheti ka kam karake ann sangrah karane ki ruchi rakhata hai aur pavitr rahata hai, vah vaishhy kahalata hai. kiantu jo ved aur sadachar ka parityag karake sada sab kuchh khane mean anurakt rahata hai aur sab tarah ke kam karata hai, sath hi bahar-bhitar apavitr rahata hai, vah shoodr kaha gaya hai. uparyukht saty adi sat gun yadi shoodr mean dikhayi dean aur brahman mean n hoan to vah shoodr shoodr nahian hai aur vah brahman brahman nahian hai. sabhi upayoan se lobh aur krodh ko jitana chahiye. yahian jnanoan mean pavitr jnan hai aur atmasanyam hai. krodh aur lobh manushhy ke kalyan mean badha dalane ke liye sada udyat rahate hai; at: poori shakti lagakar in donoan ka nivaran karana chahiye. dhan-sampatti ko krodh ke aghat se bachana chahiye, tap ko matsary ke aghat se bachana chahiye, vidya ko man-apaman se aur apane-apako pramad ke akraman ke bachana chahiye. brahman! jisake sabhi kary kamanaoan ke bandhan se rahit hote haian tatha jisane tyag ki ag mean sab kuchh hom diya hai, vahi tyagi aur vahi buddhiman haian. kisi bhi prani ki hiansa n kare, sabake sath maitripoorn bartav kare. stri-putr adi ki mamata evan asakti ko tyagakar buddhi ke dvara indriyoan ko vash mean kare aur us sthiti ko prapht kare, jo ihalok aur paralok mean bhi nirbhay evan shokarahit hai. nity tap kare, mananashil hokar indriyoan ka daman aur man ka sanyam kare. asakti ke ashrayabhoot deh-geh adi mean asakt n hokar ajit (paramatma) ko jitane (prapht karane) ki ichhchha rakhe. indriyoan se jisaka grahan hota hai, vah sab vyakht kahalata hai. jo indriyatit hone ke karan anuman se hi jana jay, use avyakt samajhana chahiye. jo vishhvas ke yogy nahian hai, us marg par n chale aur jo vishhvas karane yogy hai, usamean man lagave. man ko pran mean aur pran ko brahm mean sthapit kare. vairagy se hi nirvan pad (moksh) prapht hota hai. use pakar manushhy kisi anatm padarth ka chintan nahian karata hai. brahman sansar se vairagy hone par sukh svaroop parabrahm paramatma ko prapht kar leta hai. sarvada shauch aur sadachar ka palan kare aur samast praniyoan par dayabhav banaye rakhe; yah brahman ka pradhan lakshan hai. is prakar shrimahabharat shantiparv ke antargat mokshadharmaparv mean bhrigu-bharadvajasanvad ke pransag me varnoan ke svaroop ka kathan vishayak ek sau navasivaan adhhyay poora hua.
