yudhishthir ne poochha- dharmatma pitamah! jo svadhhyay ke liye yatnashil hai aur dharm palan ki ichhchha rakhata hai, us manushhy ke liye is sansar mean shrey khya bataya jata hai? pitamah! jagat mean shrey ka pratipadan karane vale anek prakar darshan (mat) hai; parantu ap jise shrey manate hoan, jo is lok aur paralok mean bhi kalhyan karane vala ho, use mujhe bataiye. bharat! dharm ka yah marg bahut b da hai. isase bahut si shakhaean nikali huee haian. in dharmoan mean se kaun sa dharm sarvottam, avashhy palan karane yogy mana gaya hai? rajan! bahut–si shakhaoan se yukht is mahan dharm ka vastav mean param mool khya hai? tat! ye sab batean mujhe poorn roop se bataiye. bhishhmaji ne kaha- yudhishthir! maian b de harsh ke sath tumhhean vah upay batata hooan, jisase tum kalhyan prapht kar loge. jaise amrit ko pikar purn tripti ho jati hai, usi prakar tum jnani hokar is jnan-sudha se poornat: tript ho jaoge. maharshiyoan ne apane–apane jnan ke anusar dharm ki ek nahian, anek vidhiyaan batayi haian, parantu un sabaka adhar dam (man aur indriyoan ka sanyam) hi hai. dharm ke siddhant ko janane vale vriddh purush dam ko ni:shreyas (param kalhyan) ka sadhan batate haian. visheshat: brahman ke liye to dam hi sanatan dharm hai. dam se hi use apane shubh karmoan ki yathavath siddhi prapht hoti hai. dam usake liye dan, yajn aur shvadhhyay se badhakar hai. dam tej ki vriddhi karata hai, dam param pavitr sadhan hai, dam se paparahit hua tejashvi purush paramapad ko prapht kar leta hai. hamane sansar mean dam ke saman doosara koee dharm nahian suna. jagath mean sabhi dharmavaloan ke yahaan dam ko uthkrishht bataya gaya hai. sabane usaki bhoori-bhoori prashansa ki hai. narenhdr! dam se arthath indriy aur man ke sanyam se yukht purush ko mahanh dharm ki praphti hoti hai. vah ihalok aur paralok mean bhi param sukh pata hai. jisane apaneman aur indriyoan ka daman kar liya hai, vah sukh se sot, sukh se hi jagata aur sukhapoorvak hi lokoan mean vicharata hai. usaka man sada prasanhn rahata hai. jisaki indriyaan aur man vash mean nahian hai, vah purush nirantar khlesh uthata hai. sath hi vah apane hi doshoan se bahut–se doosare–doosare anartheaan ki bhi srishti kar leta hai. charoan ashramoan mean dam ko hi uthtam vrat bataya gaya hai. ab maian indriy–daman evan manonigrah ke un lakshanoan ko bataooanga, jinaka uday hona hi dam kaha gaya hai. kshama, dhirata, ahiansa, samata, sathyvadita, saralata, indriy–vijay, dakshata, komalata, lajhja, sthirata, udarata, krodhahinata, santosh, priy vachan bolane ka shvabhav, kisi bhi prani ko kashht n dena aur doosaroan ke dosh n dekhana-in sadgunoan ka uday hona hi dam kahalata hai. kuhroonanhdan! jisane man aur indriyoan ka daman kar liya hai, usamean gurujanoan ke prati adar ka bhav, samasht praniyoan ke prati daya aur kisi ki bhi chugali n karane ki pavriti hoti hai. vah janapavad, asathy bhashan, nianda–shtuti ki pravriti, kam, krodh, lobh, darp, jadata, diang, haankana, rosh, eershhya aur doosaroan ka apaman–in durgunoan ka kabhi sevan nahian karata. |
