vaishvadev adi karmoan se jo devataoan ke nimitt havan kiya jata hai, use vidvanh purush ‘hut’ kahate haian. dan di huee vash‍tu ko ‘ahut’ kahate haian. brahmanoan ko bhojan karane ka nam ‘prahut’ hai. rajenh‍dr! pranagh‍nihotr ki vidhi se jo pranoan ko paanch gras aparn kiye jate haian, unaki ‘prashit’ sanjna hai tatha gau adi praniyoan ki triph‍ti ke liye anh‍n ki bali di jati hai, usi ka nam balidan hai. in paanch karmoan ko pakayajn kahate haian. kitane hi vidvan in pak yajnoan ko hi panchamahayajn kahate haian; kinh‍tu doosare log, jo mahayajn ke sh‍varoop ko janane vale haian, brahmayajn adi ko hi panchamahayajn manate haian. ye sabhi sab prakar se mahayajn batalaye gaye haian. ghar par aye hue bhookhe brahman ko yathashakh‍ti nirash nahian lautana chahiye. isaliye vidvan dvij ko chahiye ki vah pratidin sh‍nan karake in yajnoan ka anushh‍than kare. inh‍hean kiye bina bhojan karane vala dvij prayashchitt ka bhagi hota hai.

yudhishthir ne kaha- devadev! ap daith‍yoan ke vinashak aur devataoan ke sh‍vami haian. janardan! apane is bhakt ko sh‍nan karane ki vidhi bataiye.

shribhagavan bole- panh‍dunanh‍dan! jis vidhi ke anusar sh‍nan karane se dvijagan samash‍t papoan se chhoot jate haian, us param papanashak vidhi ka poorn roop se shravan karo. mitti, gobar, til, kusha aur phool adi shash‍trokh‍t samagri lekar jal ke samip jaye. shreshh‍th dvij ko uchit hai ki vah nadi mean sh‍nan karane ke pashh‍chath aur kisi jal mean n nahaye. adhik jal vala jalashay upalabh‍dh ho to tho de-se jal mean kabhi sh‍nan n kare. brahman ko chahiye ki jal ke nikat jakar shuddh aur manoram jagah par mitti aur gobar adi samagri rakh de. tatha pani se bahar hi prayath‍napoorvak apane donoan pair dhokar usake jal ko namash‍kar kare.

panh‍dunanh‍dan! jal samh‍poorn devataoan ka tatha mera bhi sh‍varoop hai; at: us par prahar nahian karana chahiye. jalashay ke jal se usake kinare bhoomi ko dhokar saph kare. phir buddhiman purush pani mean pravesh karake ek bar sirph dubaki lagave, aangoan ki mail n chhu dane lage. isake bad pun: achaman kare. hath ka akar gay ke kan ki tarah banakar usase tin bar jal piye. phir apane pairoan par jal chhi dak kar do bar mukh mean jal ka sh‍parsh kare. tadananh‍tar gale ke oopari bhag mean sh‍thit aankh, kan aur nak adi samash‍t inh‍driyoan ka ek-ek bar jal se sh‍parsh kare. phir donoan bhujaoan ka sh‍parsh karane ke pashh‍chat hriday aur nabhi ka sh‍parsh bhi kare. is prakar prath‍yek aang mean jal ka sh‍parsh karakar phir mash‍tak par jal chhi dake. isake bad ‘ap: punanh‍tu[1]’ mantr padhakar phir achaman kare athava achaman ke samay oankar aur vh‍yahritiyoan sahit ‘sadasamh‍patimh’[2] is rricha ka path karean. achaman ke bad mitti lekar usake tin bhag kare aur ‘idan vishh‍nu:’[3] is mantr ko padhakar use kramash: oopar ke, madhh‍y ke tatha niche ke aangoan mean lagave. tatpashchath varun-sookh‍toan se jal ko namash‍kar karake sh‍nan kare.
