dharm ke vishay mean agam-praman ki shreshthata, dharmadharm ke phal, sadhu-asadhu ke lakshan tatha shishtachar ka niroopan

vaishampayan ji kahate haian- janamejay! devakinandan bhagavan shrikrishn ke is prakar upadesh dene par yudhishthir ne shantanunandan bhishm se pun: prashn kiya. ‘sampoorn dharmajnoan mean shreshth mahabuddhiman pitamah! dharmik vishay ka nirnay karane ke liye pratyaksh praman ka ashray lena chahiye ya agam ka. in donoan mean se kaun-sa praman siddhant-nirnay mean mukhy karan hota hai?'

bhishm ji ne kaha- buddhiman naresh! tumane thik prashn kiya hai. isaka uttar deta hooan suno. mera to aisa vichar hai ki is vishay mean kahian koee sanshay hai hi nahian. dharmik vishayoan mean sandeh upasthit karana sugam hai, kiantu usaka nirnay karana bahut kathin hota hai. pratyaksh aur agam donoan ka hi kaee ant nahian hai. donoan mean hi sandeh kh de hote haian. apane ko buddhiman manane vale hetuvadi tarkik pratyaksh karan ki or hi drishti rakhakar paroksh vash‍tu ka abhav manate haian. saty hone par bhi unake astitv mean sandeh karate haian. kiantu ve balak haian. ahankaravash apane ko pandit manate haian. at: ve jo poorvokt nishchay karate haian, vah asangat hai. (akash mean nilima pratyaksh dikhayi dene par hi vah mithh‍ya hi hai, at: keval pratyaksh ke bal se saty ka nirnay nahian kiya ja sakata. dharm, eeshvar aur paralok adi mean vishay mean shastr-praman hi shreshth hai, kyoanki any pramanoan ki vahaan tak pahuanch nahian ho sakati hai) yadi kaho ki ekamatr brahm jagat ka karan kaise ho sakata hai to isaka uttar yah hai ki manushy alasy chho dakar dirgh kal tak yog ka abhyas kare aur tattv ka sakshatkar karane ke liye nirantar prayatnashil bana rahe. apane jivan ka anek upay se nirvah kare. is tarah sada yatnashil rahane vala purush hi is tattv ka darshan kar sakata hai, doosara koee nahian.

jab sare tark samapt ho jate haian, tabhi uttam jnan ki prapti hoti hai. vah jnan hi sampoorn jagat ke liye uttam jyoti hai. rajan! kore tark se jo jnan hota hai, vah vastav mean jnan nahian hai, at: usako pramanik nahian manana chahiye. jisaka ved ke dvara pratipadan nahian kiya gaya ho, us jnan ka parityag kar dena hi uchit hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- pitamah! pratyaksh praman, jo lok mean prasiddh hai, anuman, agam aur bhaanti-bhaanti ke shishtachar ye bahut-se praman upalabdh hote haian. inamean kaun-sa prabal hai, yah batane ki kripa kijiye.

bhishm ji ne kaha- beta! jab balavan purush durachari hokar dharm ko hani pahuanchane lagate haian, tab sadharan manushyoan dvara yatnapoorvak ki huee raksha ki vh‍yavash‍tha bhi kuchh samay mean bhang ho jati hai. phir to ghas-phoos se dhake hue kuane ki bhaanti adharm hi dharm ka chola pahan kar samane ata hai. yudhishthir! us avastha mean ve durachari manushy shishtachar ki maryada to d dalate haian. tum is vishay ko dhyan dekar suno. jo adharahin hai, ved-shastroan ka th‍yag karane vale haian, ve dharmadrohi mandabuddhi manav sajjanoan dvara sush‍thapit dharm aur achar ki maryada bhang kar dete haian. is prakar pratyaksh, anuman aur shishtachar- in tinoan mean sandeh bataya gaya hai (at: ve avishvasaniy hai).
