vah sab apaki janakari mean hai. brahmarshe! bataeeye, ajna dijiye, maian apaki kya seva karooan ? ‘brahmarshi narad! is samay mera jo kartavy hai, use bhi bataiye. apane psare shishyoan se bichhu d jane ke karan is samay mera yah man vishesh prasann nahian hai’. narad ji ne kaha- vyasaji! ve padhakar usaka abhyas (punaravritti) n karana vedadhyayan ka dooshan hai. vrat ka palan n karana brahman ka dooshan hai. vahik desh ke log prithvi ke dooshan hai. aur naye-naye khel-tamasha dekhane ki lalasa stri ke liye dosh ki bat hai. ap apane vedochcharan ki dhvani se rakshasabhayajanit andhakar ka nash karate hue buddhimanh putr shukadevaji ke sath vedoan ka svadhyay karate rahean. bhishmaji kahate haian- yudhishthir! naradaji ki bat sunakar param dharmajn vyasaji ne ‘bahut achchha’ kahakar unaki ajna svikar ki aur harsh mean bharakar ve vedabhyas roopi vrat ka dridhata poorvak palan karane lage. unhoanne apane putr shukadev ke sath shiksha ke niyamanusar uchch svar se tinoan lokoan ko paripoorn karate hue se vedoan ki avritti arambh kar di. nana prakar ke dharmoan ka pratipadan karane vale ve pita-putr ukt roop se vedoan ka abhyas kar hi rahe the ki samudri hava se prerit hokar jor ki aandhi chalane lagi. tab anadhyay-kal batakar vyasaji ne apane putr ko ved padhane se us samay rok diya. unake mana karane par shukadevaji ke man mean isaka karan janane ke lie prabal utkantha huee. unhoanne apane pitas se poochha- ‘brahmanh! is vayu ki utpatti kisase huee hai ? ap vayu ki sari cheshtaoan ka vistar poorvak varnan karean’. shukadevaji ka yah vachan sunakar vyasaji atyant ashchary se chakit ho uthe aur anadhyay ke karan par prakash dalate hue is prakar bole -. ‘beta! tumhean svayan hi divy drishti prapt ho gayi hai. tumhara hriday atyant nirmal hai. tum rajogun aur tamogun se rahit hokar sattvagun mean pratishthit ho. ‘jaise log darpan mean apana pratibimb dekhate haian, usi prakar tum buddhi ke dvara atma ka sakshatkar karate ho; atah svayan hi vedoan ko apane bhitar sthapit karake buddhi dvara anadhyay ke karanabhoot vayu ke vishay mean vichar karo. ‘marakar oopar ke lokoan mean jane vale aur nich ke lokake mean jane vale manushyoan ke liye do marg haian, ek to devayan jo ki vishnulok ka marg hai, atah sattvik hai, doosara pitriyan jo ki pamas hai. ‘prithvi par ya akash mean jahaan bhi hava chalati hai, usake bahane ke liye sat marg haian. tum kramashah unaka varnan suno. ‘prithvi aur akash mean jo mahabali aur mahanh bhoot-svaroop sadhy namak devagan adrishyabhav se rahate haian, unake durjay putr ka nam hai saman ‘saman putr hai udan, udan ka putr hai vyan, usake putr ka nam apan janana chahiye aur apan se pran ki utpatti huee hai. ‘pran ke koee santan nahian huee. vah shatruoan ko santap dene vala aur durjay hai. un sabake karm prithakh-prithakh haian, jinaka maian tumase yathavath roop se varnan karata hooan. ‘vayudev praniyoan ki prithakh-prithakh samast cheshtaoan ka sampadan karate haian tatha sampoorn bhootoan ko anupranit (jivit) rakhate haian, isaliye ‘pran’ kahalate haian. ‘jo dhoom tatha garmi se utpann badaloan aur oloan ko idhar se udhar le jata hai, vah pratham marg mean pravahit hone vala ‘pravah’ namak pratham vayu hai. ‘jo akash mean ras ki matraoan aur bijali adi ki utpatti ke liye prakat hota hai, vah mahanh tej se sampann dvitiy vayu ‘avah’ nam se prasiddh hai. vah b di bhari avaj ke sath bahata hai. ‘ jo sada som, soory adi grahoan ka uday evan udbhav karata hai.
