dhritarashhtr ne kaha- vidur! jab sabhi vedoan mean purush ko sau varsh ki ayu vala bataya gaya hai, tab vah kis karan se apani poorn ayu ko nahian pata?
vidur ji bole- rajan! apaka kalhyan ho. athyant abhiman, adhik bolana, thyag ka abhav, krodh, apana hi pet palane ki chianta aur mitradroh- ye chh: tikhi talavarean dehadhariyoan ki ayu ko katati haian. ye hi manushhyoan ka vadh karati haian, mrityu nahian. bharat! jo apane oopar vishvas karane vale purush ki shtri ke sath samagam karata hai, jo gurushtrigami hai, brahman hokar shoodra shtri ke sath vivah karata hai, sharab pita hai tatha jo brahman par adesh chalane vala, brahmanoan ki jivika nashht karane vala, brahmanoan ko seva kary ke liye idhar-udhar bhejane vala aur sharanagat ki hiansa karane vala hai- ye sabake sab brahm hathyare ke saman haian; inaka sang ho jane par prayashchit kare- yah vedoan ki ajna hai. b doan ki ajna manane vala, nitijn, data, yajnashesh ann ka bhojan karane vala, hiansa rahit, anarthapoorn karyoan se door rahane vala, kritajn, sathyavadi aur komal shvabhav vala vidvan shvargagami hota hai. rajan! sada priy vachan bolane vale manushhy to sahaj mean hi mil sakate haian; kiantu jo apriy hua hitakari ho, aise vachan ke vakta aur shrota donoan hi durlabh haian.[1]
jo dharm ka ashray lekar tatha shvami ko priy lagega ya apriy isaka vichar chho dakar apriy hone par bhi hit ki bat kahata hai, usi se raja ko sachhchi sahayata milati hai. kul ki raksha ke liye ek manushhy ka, gram ki raksha ke liye kul ka, desh ki raksha ke liye gaanv ka aur athma ke kalhyan ke liye sari prithvi ka thyag kar dena chahiye. apatti ke liye dhan ki raksha kare, dhan ke dvara bhi shtri ki raksha kare aur shtri evan dhan donoan ke dvara sada apani raksha kare. poorvakal mean jua khelana manushhyoan mean bair dalane ka karan dekha gaya hai; at: buddhiman manushhy hansi ke liye bhi jua n khele. pratipanandan! vichitraviryakumar! rajan! maianne jue ka khel aramhbh hote samay bhi kaha tha ki yah thik nahian hai, kiantu rogi ko jaise dava aur pathy achhchhe nahian lagate, usi tarah meri yah bat bhi apako achhchhi nahian lagi. narenhdr! ap kauoan ke saman apane putroan ke dvara vichitr pankh vale moroan ke sadrish panhdavoan ko parajit karane ka prayathn kar rahe haian; sianhoan ko chho dakar siyaroan ki raksha kar rahe haian; samay ane par apako isake liye pashchatap karana p dega.[4]
tat! jo shvami sada hitasadhan mean lage rahane vale apane bhakt sevak par kabhi krodh nahian karata, us par bhrithyagan vishvas karate haian aur use apatti ke samay bhi nahian chho date. sevakoan ki jivika band karake doosaroan ke rajhy aur dhan ke apaharan ka prayathn nahian karana chahiye; khyoanki apani jivika chhin jane se bhogoan se vanchit hokar pahale ke premi mantri bhi us samay virodhi ban jate haian aur raja ka parithyag kar dete haian. pahale kartavhy evan ay-vhyay aur uchit vetan adi ka nishchay karake phir suyoghy sahayakoan ka sangrah karean, khyoanki kathin-se-kathin kary bhi sahayakoan dvara sadhhy hote haian. jo sevak shvami ke abhipray ko samajhakar alashyarahit ho samasht karyoan ko poora karata hai, jo hit ki bat kahane vala, shvamibhakt, sajhjan aur raja ki shakti ko janane vala hai, use apane saman samajhakar us par kripa karani chahiye. jo sevak shvami ke ajna dene par unaki bat ka adar nahian karata, kisi kam mean lagaye jane par ashvikar kar deta hai, apani buddhi par garv karane aur pratikool bolane vale us bhrithy ko shighr hi thyag dena chahiye. ahankar rahit, kayarata-shoonhy, shighr kam poora karane vala, dayalu, shuddh hriday, doosaroan ke bahakavean mean n ane vala, nirog aur udar vachan vala- in ath gunoan se yukht manushhy ko ‘doot’ banane yoghy bataya gaya hai. savadhan manushhy vishvas karake asamay mean kabhi kisi doosare ke ghar n jay, rat mean chhipakar chaurahe par n kh da ho aur raja jis shtri ko chahata ho, use prapht karane ka yathn n kare. dushht sahayakoan vala raja jab bahut logoan ke sath manhtrana-samiti mean baithakar salah le raha ho, us samay usaki bat ka khanhdan n karean; ‘maian tum par vishvas nahian karata’ aisa bhi n kahean, apitu koee yuktisangat bahana banakar vahaan se hat jayean. adhik dayalu raja, vhyabhicharini shtri, rajakarmachari putr, chhote bachhchoan vali vidhava, sainik aur jisaka adhikar chhin liya gaya ho, vah purush in sabake sath lene-den ka vhyavahar n kare.[4]
ye ath gun purush ki shobha badhate haian- buddhi, kulinata, shastr jnan, indriy nigrah, parakram, adhik n bolane ka shvabhav, yathashakti dan aur kritajnata. tat! ek gun aisa hai, jo in sabhi mahatthvapoorn gunoan par hathat adhikar kar leta hai. raja jis samay kisi manushhy ka sathkar karata hai, us samay yah gun[5] uparyukht sabhi gunoan se badhakar shobha pata hai. nithy shnan karane vale manushhy ko bal, roop, madhur shvar, ujhjaval varn, komalata, sugandh, pavitrata, shobha, sukumarata aur suandari striyaan- ye das labh prapht hote haian. tho da bhojan karane vale ko nimnaankit chh: gun prapht hote haian- aroghy, ayu, bal aur sukh to milate hi haian, usaki santan uttam hoti hai tatha ‘yah bahut khane vala hai’ aisa kahakar log us par akshep nahian karate. akarmanhy, bahut khane vale, sab logoan se bair karane vale, adhik mayavi, kroor, desh-kal ka jnan n rakhane vale aur niandit vesh dharan karane vale manushhy ko kabhi apane ghar mean n thaharane de. bahut dukhi hone par bhi kripan, gali bakane vale, moorkh, jangal mean rahane vale, dhoort, nich sevi, nirdayi, bair baandhane vale aur kritaghn se kabhi sahayata ki yachana nahian karani chahiye. kleshaprad karm karane vale, athyant pramadi, sada asathy bhashan karane vale, asthir bhakti vale, shneh se rahit, apane ko chatur manane vale- in chh: prakar ke adham purushoan ki seva n kare.[6]
dhan ki prapti sahayak ki apeksha rakhati hai aur sahayak dhan ki apeksha rakhate haian; ye donoan ek-doosare ke ashrit haian, parashpar ke sahayog bina inaki siddhi nahian hoti. putroan ko uthpanhn kar unhhean rrin ke bhar se mukht karake unake liye kisi jivika ka prabandh kar de; apani sabhi kanyaoan ka yoghy var ke sath vivah kar dean tatpashhchat van mean munivritti se rahane ki ichhchha karean. jo samhpoorn praniyoan ke liye hitakar aur apane liye bhi sukhad ho, use eeshvararpan buddhi se karean; samhpoorn siddhiyoan ka yahi moolamantr hai. jisamean badhane ki shakti, prabhav, tej, parakram, udyog aur[7] nishchay hai, use apani jivika ke nash ka bhay kaise ho sakata hai. panhdavoan ke sath yuddh karane mean jo dosh hai, un par drishti daliye; unase sangram chhi d jane par inhdr adi devataoan ko bhi kashht hi uthana p dega. isake siva putroan ke sath bair, nithy udvegapoorn jivan, kirti ka nash aur shatruoan ko ananhd hoga. inhdr ke saman parakrami maharaj! akash mean tirachha udit hua dhoomaketu jaise sare sansar mean ashaanti aur upadrav kh da kar deta hai, usi tarah bhishhm, ap, dronachary aur raja yudhishthir ka badha hua kop is sansar ka sanhar kar sakata hai. apake sau putr, karn aur paanch panhdav- ye sab milakar samudraparyant sampoorn prithvi ka shasan kar sakate haian. rajan! apake putr van ke saman haian aur panhdav us mean rahane vale vhyaghr haian. ap vhyaghroan sahit samasht van ko nashht n kijiye tatha van se un vhyaghroan ko door n bhagaiye. vhyaghroan ke bina van ki raksha nahian ho sakati tatha van ke bina vhyaghr nahian rah sakate; khyoanki vhyaghr van ki raksha karate haian aur van vhyaghroan ki. jinaka man papoan mean laga rahata hai, ve log doosaroan ke kalhyanamay gunoan ko janane ki vaisi ichhchha nahian rakhate, jaisi ki unake avagunoan ko janane ki rakhate haian.[6]
jo arth ki poorn siddhi chahata ho, use pahale dharm ka hi acharan karana chahiye. jaise shvarg se amrit door nahian hota, usi prakar dharm se arth alag nahian hota. jisaki buddhi pap se hatakar kalhyan mean laga di gayi hai, usane sansar mean jo bhi prakriti aur vikriti hai- us sabako jan liya hai. jo samayanusar dharm, arth aur kam ka sevan karata hai, vah is lok aur paralok mean bhi dharm, arth aur kam ko prapht karata hai. rajan! jo krodh aur harsh ke uthe hue veg ko rok leta hai aur apatti mean bhi moh ko prapht nahian hota, vahi rajalakshhmi ka adhikari hota hai. rajan! apaka kalhyan ho, manushhy mean sada paanch prakar ka bal hota hai; use suniye. jo bahubal namak pratham bal hai, nikrisht bal kahalata hai; mantri ka milana doosara bal hai, manishi log dhan ke labh ko tisara bal batate haian, aur rajan! jo bap-dadoan se prapt hua manushy ka svabhavik bal[8] hai, vah 'abhijat' namak chautha bal hai. bharat! jisase in sabhi baloan ka sangrah ho jata hai tatha jo sab baloan mean shreshth bal hai, vah paanchava 'buddhi ka bal' kahalata hai. jo manushy ka bahut b da apakar kar sakata hai,us purush ke sath bair thanakar is vishvas par nishchint n ho jay ki maian usase door hooan.[9] aisa kaun buddhiman hoga, jo shtri, raja, saanp, padhe hue path, samarthhyashali vhyakti, shatru, bhog aur ayu par poorn vishvas kar sakata hai?[10]
jisako buddhi ke ban se mara gaya hai, us jiv ke liye n koee vaidy hai, n dava hai, n hom, n mantr, n koee maangalik kary, n atharvavedokht prayog aur n bhali-bhaanti siddh j di-booti hi hai. bharat! manushhyoan ko chahiye ki vah saanp, agni, sianh aur apane kul mean uthpanhn vhyakti ka anadar n kare; khyoanki ye sabhi b de tejashvi hote haian. sansar mean agni ek mahan tej hai, vah kath mean chhipi rahati hai; kiantu jab tak doosare log prajvalit n kar dean, tab tak vah us kath ko nahian jalati. vahi agni yadi kashhth se mathakar uddipht kar di jati hai to vah apane tej se us kath ko, jangal ko tatha doosari vashtuoan ko bhi jalhdi hi jala dalati hai. isi prakar apane kul mean uthpanhn ve agni ke saman tejashvi panhdav kshama bhav se yukht aur vikar shoonhy ho kashhth mean chhipi agni ki tarah gupht roop se[11] sthit haian. apane putroan sahit ap lata ke saman haian aur panhdav mahan shalavriksh ke sadrish haian; mahan vriksh ka ashray liye bina lata kabhi badh nahian sakati. rajan! ambikanandan! apake putr ek van haian aur panhdavoan ko usake bhitar rahane vale sianh samajhiye. tat! sianh se soona ho jane par van nashht ho jata hai aur van ke bina sianh bhi nashht ho jate haian.[10]
