'
(3.2) eeshvare tadadhineshu balisheshu dvishatsu ch.
prem-maitri-kripopeksha yah karoti s madhyam:॥[1]
yah hai dvitiy shreni ka- doosare darje ka bhakt!
- eeshvare- eeshvar mean.
- tadadhineshu- eeshvar ke bhaktoan mean.
- balisheshu- samany moodhajanoan mean.
- dvishatsu- hamase dvesh-dushmani karane valoan mean.
- yah- jo.
- prem-maitri-kripopeksha- kramashah prem, maitri, kripa aur upeksha.
- karoti- karata hai.
- s madhyamah- vah madhyam koti ka yani dvitiy shreni ka bhakt kaha gaya hai.
is tarah yahaan 1. parameshvar, 2. parameshvar ke bhakt, 3. madhajan aur 4. dushmani karane vale- aise char varg bataye. bhakt in charoan ke sath char prakar ke vyavahar karata hai, yani usake vyavahar mean kuchh bhed hai. usake chitt mean parameshvar ke lie prem hoga. sara prem usane parameshvar ke lie hi ikattha kiya hai. prem ka eeshvar ke lie samarpan hi usaka nirnay hai. phir, eeshvar ke jo bhakt haian, unake sath vah maitri karata hai, yani unaka ‘phraiand yoonit’ hota hai. ‘maitri’ shabd eesaiyoan mean bahut prachalit hai. unamean ‘maitri-sangh’, ‘mitr sangh’ is tarah ke sangh hua karate haian. phir jo moodhajan haian, unake lie usake man mean kripa yani karuna hoti hai aur jo dushmani karate haian, unake lie upeksha. kaun dushman hai, yah ham nahian janate. lekin yadi koee dushmani karata hai, to bhakt usaki upeksha karega. yani usaki or dhyan nahian dega. is prakar ki bhavana karane vala nanbar do ka bhakt hoga.
bhagavan buddh ne bhakt ki jo kalpana ki thi, vahi yah hai. kiantu unhoanne sarvottam bhakt ki yah kalpana ki, jabaki bhagavat ke anusar vah nambar do mean ata hai. bhagavan buddh ne bhi kaha tha ki bhakt ko char prakar ka vyavahar karana chahie. gautam buddh ne 40 din upavas kiye the. eesa aur moosa ne bhi 40 upavas kiye. shayad yah pratha gautam buddh se hi ayi ho. mujhe ved mean bhi is arth ke kuchh vachan mile haian, jinamean 40 upavasoan ki bat kahi gayi hai. lekin vah mera khas arth hai. gautam buddh ne 40 dinoan ke upavas ke aant mean jab aankhean kholian to unhean ek disha mean maitri ka darshan hua, doosari disha mean karuna ka tisari mean prem ka to chauthi disha mean upeksha ka darshan hua. tab se ve ye char bhavanaean samajhane lage. par bhagavat kahati hai ki jo aisi bhavana karega, vah nambar do ka bhakt hoga; kyoanki usamean ek eeshvar, ek bhakt, ek moodh aur ek dushman, aisi pahachan hai arthat bhedabuddhi ya vivek hai. par nanbar ek ke bhakt mean yah pahachan bhi nahian hoti.
patanjali ne ‘yogasootr’ mean yah kahakar ki ‘char prakar ki bhavana karoge to chitt prasann rahega’- maitri, karuna, mudita aur upeksha- ye char prakar bataye haian. duahkhi janoan ke lie karuna, sukhi janoan ke sath maitri, punyavanoan ko dekhakar anand ya prem aur papiyoan ki upeksha yani doosaroan ke pap ki taraph dhyan n dena.

sukh, duahkh, pap, puny,- ye char vishay batakar unake lie char prakar ki bhavanaean karane par chitt prasann hoga, yah patanjali ka mat hai. yahi bhav unhoanne nimnalikhit roop mean sootrabaddh kiya hai :
'maitri-karuna-muditopekshanaan sukh-duahkh-punyapuny-
vishayanaan bhavanatashchittaprasadanamh.[2]
ye char hi batean bhagavat mean kahi gayi haian, lekin unamean tho da farak hai. vahaan eeshvar ke lie prem bataya gaya hai. punyavan ka arth eeshvar bhi ho sakata hai, lekin yahaan vaisa nahian hai. bhagavat ke is shlok mean eeshvar aur usake bhakt donoan mean bhed hai, yah spasht kar diya hai.
