yah sthiti prapt hone par phir punarjanm nahian hota isaliye ek sharir ke nasht hone par doosare sharir ko pane ki samany kriya ke liye prayukt hone vale ‘maran’ shabd ka upayog bauddhadharm ke anusar ‘nirvan’ ke liye kiya bhi nahian ja sakata. nirvan to ‘mrityu ki mrityu,’ athava upanishadoan ke varnananusar ‘mrityu ko par kar jane ka marg’ hai–niri maut nahian hai. brihadaranyak upanishad[1] mean yah drishtaant diya hai ki jis prakar sarp ko, apani kaianchali chho d dene par usaki kuchh parava nahian rahati, usi prakar jab koee manushy is sthiti mean pahuanch jata hai tab use bhi apane sharir ki kuchh chianta nahian rah jati; aur isi drishtaant ka adhar asali bhikshu ka varnan karate samay suttanipat mean uragasutt ke pratyek shlok mean liya gaya hai. vaidikadharm ka yah tattv[2], ki “atmanishth purush pap-puny se sadaiv alipt rahata hai[3] isaliye use matrivadh tatha pitrivadh sarikhe patakoan ka bhi dosh nahian lagata”, dhammapad mean shabdash: jyoan ka tyoan batalaya gaya hai[4] saraansh, yadyapi brahm tatha atma ka astitv buddh ko many nahian tha.

tathapi man ko shaant, virakt tatha nishkam karana prabhriti moksh-prapti ke jin sadhanoan ka upanishadoan mean varnan hai, ve hi sadhan buddh ke mat se nirvan-prapti ke liye bhi avashyak hai; isiliye bauddh yati tatha vaidikasannyasiyoan ke varnan manasik sthiti ki drishti se ek hi se hote haian; aur isi karan pap-puny ki javabadari ke sanbandh mean, tatha janm-maran ke chakkar se chhutakara pane ke vishay mean, vaidik sannyas-dharm ke jo siddhaant haian ve hi bauddhadharm mean bhi sthir rakhe gaye haian. parantu vaidikadharm gautam buddh se pahale ka hai, atev is vishay mean koee shanka nahian ki ye vichar asal mean vaidikadharm ke hi haian. vaidik tatha bauddh sannyas-dharmoan ki vibhinnata ka varnan ho chuka. ab dekhana chahiye ki garhasthyadharm ke vishay mean buddh ne kya kaha hai. atm-anatm-vichar ke tattvajnan ko mahattv n de kar saansarik du:khoan ke astitv adi drishy adhar par hi yadyapi bauddhadharm kh da kiya gaya hai, tathapi smaran rakhana chahiye, ki koant sarikhe adhunik pashchimi panditoan ke nire adhibhautik dharm ke anusar–athava gitadharm ke anusar bhi-bauddhadharm mool mean pravrittipradhan nahian hai. yah sach hai ki buddh ko upanishadoan ke atmajnan ki tattvik ‘drishti’ many nahian hai, parantu vrihadaranyak upanishad[5] mean varnit yajnavalky ka yah siddhaant ki, “sansar ko bilakul chho d karake man ko nirvishay tatha nishkam karana hi is jagat mean manushy ka keval ek param kartavy hai,” bauddhadharm mean sarvatha sthir rakha gaya hai. isiliye bauddhadharm mool mean keval sannyas-pradhan ho gaya hai.
