brihatsam tatha samnaan gayatri chhandasamahamh .
uttar- samaved ke ‘rathantar’ adi samoan mean brihath sam[2] (‘brihath’ namak sam) pradhan hone ke karan sabamean shreshth haian, isi karan yahaan ‘brihatsamh’ ko apana svaroop batalaya hai. prashn- chhandoan mean gayatri chhand ko apana svaroop batalane ka kya abhipray hai? uttar- vedoan ki jitani bhi chhandobaddh rrichaean haian, un sabamean gayatri ki hi pradhanata hai. shruti, smriti, itihas aur puran adi shastroan mean jagah-jagah gayatri ki mahima bhari hai.[3] gayatri ki is shreshthata ke karan hi bhagavanh ne usako apana svaroop batalaya hai. prashn- mahinoan mean margashirsh ko apana svaroop batalane ka kya abhipray hai? uttar- mahabharatakal mean mahinoan ki ganana margashirsh se hi arambh hoti thi.[4] atah yah sab masau mean pratham mas hai, tatha is mas mean kiye hue vrat-upavasoan ka shastroan mean mahanh phal batalaya gaya hai.[5] naye ann ki ishti (yajn)- ka bhi isi mahine mean vidhan hai. valmikiy ramayan mean ise sanvatsar ka bhooshan batalaya gaya hai. is prakar anyany masoan ki apeksha isamean kee visheshataean haian, isaliye bhagavanh ne isako apana svaroop batalaya hai. prashn- rrituoan mean vasant-rritu ko apana svaroop batalane ka kya abhipray hai? uttar- vasant sab rrituoan mean shreshth aur sabaka raja hai. isamean bina hi jal ke sab vanaspatiyaan hari-bhari aur navin patroan tatha pushpoan se samanvit ho jati haian. isamean n adhik garami rahati hai aur n saradi. is rritu mean prayah sabhi praniyoan ko anand hota hai. isiliye bhagavanh ne isako apana svaroop batalaya hai. |

yaya vina tvadhahpato brahmanasyasti sarvatha.. (devibhagavat 12. 8. 89)‘gayatri ki upasana ko samast vedoan ne nity (anivary) kaha hai. is gayatri ki upasana ke bina brahman ka to sab tarah adhahpatan hai hi.’
abhishtan lokamapnoti prapnuyath kamamipsitamh.

hastatranaprada devi patataan narakarnave.. (shankhasmriti 12. 24-25)‘(gayatri ki upasana karane vala dvij) apane abhisht lok ko pa jata hai, manovaanchhit bhog prapt kar leta hai. gayatri samast vedoan ki janani aur sampoorn papoan ko nasht karane vali haian. svargalok mean tatha prithvi par gayatri se badhakar pavitr karane vali doosari koee vastu nahian hai. gayatri devi narak samudr mean girane valoan ko hath ka sahara dekar bacha lene vali hai.’
gayatryastu paran nasti shodhanan papakarmanamh.
mahavyahritisanyuktaan pranaven ch sanjapeth.. (sanvartasmriti 218)‘gayatri se badhakar papakarmoan ka shodhak (prayashchitt) doosara kuchh bhi nahian hai. pranam (ooankar) sahit tin mahavyahritiyoan se yukt gayatri mantr ka jap karana chahiye.’
