pragat hai, ki ‘pahale ke‘ is pad ka arth ‘poorv manh‍vanh‍tar ke sat maharshi’ laga nahian sakate. ab dekhana hai ki ‘pahale ke char’ in shabh‍doan ko manu ka visheshan man kar kee ekoan ne jo arth kiya hai, vah kahaan tak yuktisangat hai. kul chaudah manh‍vanh‍tar haian aur inake chaudah manu haian; inamean sat-sat ke do varg haian. pahale satoan ke nam sh‍vayamh‍bhuv, sh‍varochish, auttami, tamas, raivat, chakshush aur vaivash‍t haian, tatha ye sh‍vayamh‍bhuv adi manu kahe jate haian[1]. inamean se chh: manu ho chuke aur aj kal satavaan arthat vaivash‍vat manu chal raha hai. isake samaph‍t hone par age jo sat manu aveange[2] unako savarni manu kahate haian; unake nama savarni, dakshavavarni, brahmasavarni, dhamasavarni, rudrasavarni, devasavarni aur inh‍drasavarni haian[3] is prakar, prath‍yek manu ke sat-sat hone par, koee karan nahian batalaya ja sakata ki kisi bhi varg ke ‘pahale ke’ ‘char hi git mean kh‍yoan vivakshit hoange.

brahmanh‍d puran[4] mean katha hai ki savarni manuoan mean pahale manu ko chho d kar agale char arthat iksh-brahm, dharm, aur rudr-savarni ek hi samay mean uth‍panh‍n hue; aur isi adhar se kuchh log kahate haian ki yahi char savarni manu gita mean vivakshit haian. kinh‍tu is par doosara akshep yah hai ki ye sab savarni man bhavishh‍y mean hon vale haian, is karan yah bhootakal-darshak agala vakh‍y ‘’jinase is lok yah praja huee ‘’ bhavi savarni manuoan ko lagoo nahian ho sakata. is prakar ‘pahale ke char‘ shabh‍doan ka samh‍banh‍dh ‘ manu’ pad se jo d dena thik nahian hai. atev kahana p data hai ki ‘pahale ke char‘ ye donoan shabh‍d sh‍vatanh‍tr riti se prachin kal ke koee char rrishiyoan athava purushoan ka bodh karate haian. aur aisa man lene se yah prashh‍n sahaj hi hota hai ki ye pahale char rrishi ya purush kaun haian? jin tikakaroan ne is shh‍lok ka aisa arth kiya hai, unake man mean sanak, sananh‍d, sanatan aur sanath‍kumar[5] yehi ve char rrishi haian. kinh‍tu is arth par akshep yah hai ki yadyapi ye charoan rrishi brahma ke manas putr haian tathapi ye sabhi janh‍m se hi sannh‍yasi hone ke karan praja-buddhi n karate the aur isase brahma in par kruddh ho gaye the[6]. arthat yah vakh‍y in char rrishiyoan ko bilakul hi upayukh‍t nahian hota ki ‘’ jinase is lok mean yah praja huee ‘’-yeshaan lak ima: praja:.
