us riti ya vidhi ka varnan ab yani satavean adhh‍yay se aramh‍bh karata hooan–yahi is shh‍lok ka arth hai. arthath, pahale chh: adhh‍yayoan ka agale adhh‍yayoan se samh‍banh‍dh batalane ke liye yah shh‍lok janaboojhakar satavean adhh‍yay ke aramh‍bh mean rakha gaya hai. isaliye is shh‍lok ke arth ki or dhh‍yan n dekar yah kahana bilakul anuchit hai, ki ‘pahale chh: adhh‍yayoan ke bad bhakti-nishh‍tha ka sh‍vatantr riti se varnan kiya gaya hai.’ keval itana hi nahian; varanh yah bhi kaha ja sakata hai ki shh‍lok mean yogan yuanjanh pad janaboojhakar isiliye rakhe gaye haian ki jisamean koee aisa viparit adhh‍yayoan mean karm ki avashh‍yakata batalakar saankhh‍yamarg ki apeksha karmayog shreshh‍th kaha gaya hai; aur isake bad chhathe adhh‍yay mean patanjalayog ke sadhanoan ka varnan kiya gaya hai-jo karmayog mean indriy nigrah ke liye avashh‍yak hai. paranh‍tu itane hi se karmayog ka varnan poora nahian ho jata. indriy-nigrah mano karmendriyoan se ek prakar ki kasarat karana hai. yah sach hai ki‍ is abhh‍yas ke dvara indriyoan ko ham apane adhin rakh sakate haian; parantu yadi manushh‍y ki vasana hi buri hogi to indriyoan ko kaboo mean rakhane se kuchh bhi labh nahian hoga. kh‍yoanki dekha jata hai ki dushh‍t vasanaoan ke karan kuchh log isi indriy nigraharoop siddhi ka jaran-maran adi dushh‍karmoan mean upayog kiya karate haian.

isaliye chhathean adhh‍yay hi mean kaha hai, ki indriy-nigrah ke sath hi vasana bhi ‘ sarvabhootash‍thamath‍manan sarvabhootani chath‍mani ‘ ki naee shuddh ho jani chahiye[1]; aur brahmath‍maikh‍y roop parameshh‍var ke shuddh sh‍varoop ki pahachan hue bina vasana ki is prakar shuddhata hona asamh‍bhav hai.tath‍pary yah hai, ki jo indriya-nigrah karmayog ke liye avashh‍yak hai vah bhale hi praph‍t ho jay, paranh‍tu ‘ras arthath vishayoan ki chah man mean jh‍yoan ki th‍yoan bani hi rahati hai. is ras athava vishayavasana ka nash karane ke liye parameshh‍var-samh‍banh‍dhi poorn jnan ki hi avashh‍yakata hai. yah bat gita ke doosare adhh‍yay mean kahi garhi hai[2]. isaliye karmayog ka acharan karate hue hi jis riti athava vidhi se parameshh‍var ka yah jnan praph‍t hota hai, usi vidhi ka ab bhagavanh satavean adhh‍yay se varnan karate haian. ‘karmayog ka acharan karate hue ‘-is pad se yah bhi siddh hota hai ki karmayog ke jari rahate hi is jnan ki prapti kar leni hai; isake liye karmoan ko chho d nahian baithana hai; aur isise yah kahana bhi nirmool ho jata hai ki bhakti aur jnan ko karmayog ke badale vikalh‍p manakar inh‍hi do sh‍vatantr margoan ka varnan satavean adhh‍yay se age kiya gaya hai.
