ki trishna ya asantosh ke sath sath karm ko bhi tyag dene se sansar ke hi nasht ho jane ka jo prasang a sakata hai, vah bhi nahian a sakega; aur, hamari manovritiyaan shuddh hokar prani matr ke liye hitaprad ho javegi. isamean sandeh nahian ki is tarah phalasha chho dane ke liye bhi indriyoan ka aur man ka vairagy se poora daman karana p data hai. parantu smaran rahe ki indriyoan ko svadhin karake, svarth ke badale, vairagy se tatha nishkam buddhi se lokasangrah ke liye, unhean apane apane vyapar karane dena kuchh aur bat hai; aur sannyasamarganusar trishna ko marane ke liye indriyoan ke sabhi vyaparoan ko arthat karmoan ko agrahapoorvak samool nasht kar dalana bilakul hi bhin bat hai- in donoan mean jamin asaman ka aantar hai. gita mean jis vairagy ka aur jis indriyanigrah ka upadesh kiya gaya hai vah pahale prakar ka hai, doosare prakar ka nahian; sanvad mean raja janak brahan- roopadhari dharm se kahate haian kiah-

arthath “jis (vairagy) buddhi ko man mean dharan karake maian sab vishayoan ka sevan karata hooan, usaka hal suno. nak se maian ‘apane liye’ bas nahian leta,[1]aur man ka bhi upayog maian atma ke liye arthat apane labh ke liye nahian karata; atev meri nak (aankh ityadi) aur man mere vash mean haian arthat maianne unhean jit liya hai. ‘gita ke vachan[2] ka bhi yahi tatpary hai ki jo manushy keval indriyoan ki vriti ko [3]to rok deta haian aur man se vishayoanka chintan karata rahata hai, vah poora dhoangi hai; aur jo manushy mananigrahapoorvak kamy buddhi ko jit kar, sab manovritiyaan ko lokasangrah ke liye apana apana kam karane deta hai, vahi shreshth hai. bahyajagat ya indriyoan ke vyapar hamare utpann kiye hue nahian haian, ve svabhavasiddh haian.

ham dekhate haiki jab koee sannyasi bahut bhookha hota hai tab usako- chahe vah kitana hi nigrahi ho- bhikh maangane ke liye kahian bahar jana hi p data hai [4]; aur, bahut der tak ek hi jagah baithe rahane se ub karavah uth kh da ho jata hai. tatpary yah hai ki nigrah chahe kitana ho, parantu indiyoan ke jo svabhav-siddh vyapar haian ve kabhi nahian chhootate; aur yadi yah bat sach hai to indriyoan ki vriti tatha sab karmoan ko aur sab prakar ichchha ya asantosh ko nasht karane ke duragrah mean n p dana [5], evan manonigrah poorvak phalasha chho dakar sukh-duahkh ko ek-barabar samajhana [6], tatha nishkam buddhi se lokahit ke liye sab karmoan ko shastrokt riti se karate rahana hi, shreshth tatha adarsh marg haian isiliye-
