ʻʻyah to maianne tere samane buddhi ki dalil rakhi, athma aur deh ka bhed bataya aur tere kul-dharm ka tujhe bhan karaya, par ab tujhe maian karmayog ki bat samajhata hooan. is yog par amal karane vale ko kabhi nukasan nahian hota. isamean tark ki bat nahian hai, acharan ki hai, karake anubhav pane ki bat hai, aur yah to prasiddh anubhav hai ki hajaroan man tark ki apeksha tola-bhar acharan ki kimat adhik hai. is acharan mean bhi yadi achhchhe-bure parinam ka tark a ghuse to vah dooshit ho jata hai. parinam ke vichar se hi buddhi malin ho jati hai. vedavadi log karmakaand mean p dakar anek prakar ke phal pane ki ichhchha se anek kriyaean aramhbh kar baithate haian. ek se phal n milane par doosari ke pichhe dau date haian. phir koee tisari bata deta hai to usake pichhe hairan hote haian, aur aisa karane mean unaki mati bhram mean p d jati hai. vashtav mean manushhy ka dharm phal ka vichar chho d-kar kartavhy-karm kiye jane ka hai. is samay yah yuddh tera kartavhy hai, ise poora karana tera dharm hai. labh-hani, har-jit tere hath mean nahian hai. too ga di ke niche chalane vale kutte ki bhaanti isaka bojh khyoan dhota hai? har-jit, saradi-garami, sukh-du:kh deh ke sath lage hi hue haian, unhhean manushhy ko sahana chahie. jo bhi natija ho, usake vishay mean nishchit rahakar tatha samata rakhakar manushhy ko apane kartavhy mean tanhmay rahana chahie. isaka nam yog hai aur isi mean karm kushalata hai. kary ki siddhi-kary ke karane mean chhipi hai, usake parinam mean nahian. too shvashth ho, phal ka abhiman chho d aur kartavhy ka palan kare.' yah sunakar arjun poochhata hai, ʻʻyah to mere boote ke bahar jan p data hai. har-jit ka vichar chho dana, parinam ka vichar hi n karana, aisi samata, aisi sthir buddhi, kaise a sakati hai? mujhe samajhaiye ki aisi sthir buddhi vale kaise hote haian, unhhean kaise pahachana ja sakata hai?̕̕"
tab bhagavan ne javab diya:
ʻʻhe arjun! jis manushhy ne apani kamana-matr ka thyag kiya hai aur jo apane anhtar mean hi santosh prapht karata hai, vah sthirachitt, sthitaprajn, sthirabuddhi ya samadhishth kahalata hai. aisa manushhy n du:kh se du:khi hota hai, n sukh se phool uthata hai. sukh-du:khadi paanch iandriyoan ke vishay haian. isalie aisa buddhiman manushhy kachhue ki bhaanti apani iandriyoan ko samet leta hai, par kachhua to jab kisi dushhman ko dekhata hai tab apane aangoan ko dhal ke niche sametata hai; lekin manushhy ki iandriyoan par to vishay nithy chadhaee karane ko kh de hi haian, at: use to hamesha iandriyoan ko samete rakhana aur shvayan dhal roop hokar vishayoan ke mukabale mean l dana hai.
