puranoan ki rachana vaidik kal ke kafi bad ki hai,ye smriti vibhag mean rakhe jate haian. puranoan mean srishti ke arambh se ant tak ka vishad vivaran diya gaya hai. puranoan ko manushy ke bhoot, bhavishy, vartaman ka darpan bhi kaha ja sakata hai. is darpan mean manushy apane pratyek yug ka chehara dekh sakata hai. is darpan mean apane atit ko dekhakar vah apana vartaman sanvar sakata hai aur bhavishy ko ujjval bana sakata hai. atit mean jo hua, vartaman mean jo ho raha hai aur bhavishy mean jo hoga, yahi kahate haian puran. inamean hindoo devi-devataoan ka aur pauranik mithakoan ka bahut achchha varnan hai. inaki bhasha saral aur katha kahani ki tarah hai. puranoan ko vedoan aur panishadoan jaisi pratishtha prapt nahian hai.

puran shabd ‘pura’ evan ‘an’ shabdoan ki sandhi se bana hai, jisaka shabdik arth -‘purana’ athava ‘prachin’ hota hai. ‘pura’ shabd ka arth hai - anagat evan atit.

‘an’ shabd ka arth hota hai -kahana ya batalana arthath jo puratan athava atit ke tathyoan, siddhaantoan, shikshaoan, nitiyoan, niyamoan aur ghatanaoan ka vivaran prastut kare. mana jata hai ki srishti ke rachanakarta brahmaji ne sarvapratham jis prachinatam dharmagranth ki rachana ki, use puran ke nam se jana jata hai. hindoo sanatan dharm mean, puran srishti ke prarambh se mane gaye haian, isalie inhean srishti ka prachinatam granth man liya jata hai kintu ye bahut bad ki rachana hai. soory ke prakash ki bhaanti puran ko jnan ka srot mana jata hai. jaise soory apani kiranoan se aandhakar hatakar ujala kar deta hai, usi prakar puran apani jnanaroopi kiranoan se manav ke man ka aandhakar door karake saty ke prakash ka jnan dete haian. sanatanakal se hi jagat puranoan ki shikshaoan aur nitiyoan par hi adharit hai.
