s sannyasi ch yogi ch n niragnirn chakriy: ॥1॥

he arjun! sun, yogi aur sannyasi-ye donoan ek hi haian. ho sakata hai ki tum in donoan ko prithakh-prithakh manate ho, par vichar karane se ye donoan ek hi jan p date haian. yadi yah nam-bhedavala bhram mita diya jay to yog hi sannyas siddh hota hai aur yadi brahmajnan ki drishti se dekha jay to inamean koee bhed hi nahian rahata. jaise ham ek hi vyakti ko alag-alag namoan se pukarate haian, athava jaise do alag-alag rastoan se ek hi jagah par (nishchit sthan par) pahuanchate haian athava jaise svabhavatah ekaroop rahane vala pani bhinn-bhinn patroan mean bhara jane par bhi ekaroop hi rahata hai, vaise hi yog aur sannyas ka antar ekamatr dikhavati hai, vastavik nahian.

he arjun! suno! sansar mean bahumany siddhant yahi hai ki jo manushy karmoan ka aracharan karata hua bhi un karmoan ke phal se asakti nahian rakhata, usi ko yogi janana chahiye. jaise yah prithvi sahajabhav se ahamh buddhi ke bina hi vriksh adi udbhijjoan ki srishti karati hai, parantu unake bijoan ya phaloan ki apeksha nahian karati, vaise hi jo parabrahm ki vyapakata ka avalamb lekar apani svabhav siddh sthiti ke anuroop jis samay jo uchit kartavy jan p data hai, us samay use kar dalata hai, par phir bhi jisamean dehabuddhi ka ahamh leshamatr bhi nahian hota arthath jisamean kartritvabhav nahian rahata aur jo phalasakti ko apane chitt tak pahuanchane hi nahian deta, usi ko sannyasi janana chahiye aur he parth! vastav mean vahi sachcha yogishvar hai. par jisase is yog-yukti ka sadhan nahian hota aur jo svabhavik tatha naimittik karmoan ko ekamatr baandhane vala manakar tyag deta hai, vah sath-hi-sath kuchh any karmoan ko apane sath laga leta hai. jaise apane deh mean laga hua ek lep poanchhakar turant hi doosara lep laga liya jay, vaisi hi sthiti un logoan ki hoti hai jo ekamatr agrah ke adhin hokar aisa vyavahar karate hai aur bekar ki vivechana mean p date haian. bhiya arjun! ek to grihasth-ashram ka bojh pahale se hi svabhavatah sir par hai, ab us bojh ka nirvahan thik tarah se n karake shighrata mean sannyas ka ek doosara bhar lekar apana bojh aur kyoan badhaya jay? isiliye shraut, smartt aur hom adi karmoan ka parityag n karate hue aur n to kabhi achar ki maryada ka ullanghan karate hue bas apane karm ka palan karane se hi ab karmayog svabhavatah hi atm sukhadayak ho jata hai.[1]
