isi prakar mokshadharm mean, piganlagita mean bhi kaha hai, ki ‘’nairashh‍yan paraman sukhan’’ athava ‘’yoasau pranantikau rogash‍taan trishh‍naan th‍yajat: sukhamh ‘’-trishh‍naroop prananh‍tak rog chhoote bina nahian hai[1]. jabal aur brihadaranayak upanishadoan ke vachanoan ke atirikh‍t keval aur narayanopanishad mean varnan hai, ki ‘’ n karmana prajaya dhanen th‍yagenaik amritath‍vamanashu:’’’- karm se, praja se athava dhan se nahian, kinh‍tu th‍yag se ( ya nh‍yas se ) kud purush moksh praph‍t karate haian[2]. yadi gita ka yah siddhanh‍t hai, ki jnani purush ko bhi anh‍t tak karm hi karate rahana chahiye, to ab batalana chahiaye ki in vachano ki vh‍yavash‍tha kaisi kh‍ya lagaee jave. is shanka ke hone se hi arjun ne athaharavean adhh‍yay ke aramh‍bh mean bhagavanh se poochha hai ki ‘’to ab mujhe alag-alag batalao, ki sannh‍yas ke mani kh‍ya hai, aur th‍yag se kh‍ya samajhooan’’[3]. yah dekhane ke pahale, ki bhagavanh ne is prashh‍n ka kh‍ya uth‍tar diya, sh‍mritigranh‍thoan mean pratipadit is ashram-marg ke atirikh‍t ek doosare tulh‍y bal ke vaidik marg ka bhi yahaan par tho da sa vichar karana avashh‍yak hai.

brahmachari, grihash‍th, vanaprash‍th aur anh‍t mean sannh‍yasi, is prakar ashramoan ki in char chadhati huee sidhi़yoan ke jine ko hi ‘sh‍mart’ arthath ‘sh‍mritikaroan ka pratipadan kiya hua marg’ kahate haian. ‘karm kar’ aur ‘ karm chho d’-ved ki aisi jo do prakar ki ajnaean haian, unaki ekavakh‍yata dikhalane ke liye ayu ke bhed ke anusar ashramoan ki vayavash‍tha sh‍mritikarth‍taoan ne ki hai; aur karmoan ke sh‍varoopat: sannh‍yas hi ko yadi antim dhh‍yey man lean, to us dhh‍yey ki siddhi ke liye samritikaroan ke nirdishh‍t roop samajh kar anuchit nahian kah sakate. ayushh‍y bitane ke liye is prakar chadhati huee sidhi़yoan ki vh‍yavash‍tha se sansar ke vh‍yavahar ka lop n ho kar yadyapi vaidik karm aur aupanishadik jnan ka mel ho jata hai; tathapi anh‍y tinoan ashramoan ka anh‍nadata grihash‍thashram hi rahane ke karan, manush‍mriti aur mahabharat mean bhi, anh‍t mean usaka hi mahath‍v sh‍pashh‍tataya sh‍vikrit hua hai-

yatha mataramashrith‍y sarve jivanti jantav:.
evan garhash‍thh‍yamashriyath‍y vartanh‍t itarashrama:..

‘’ mata ke ( prithh‍vi ke ) ashray se jis prakar sab janh‍tu jivit rahate haian, usi prakar grihash‍thashram ke asare anh‍y ashram haian[4]. manu ne to anh‍yanh‍y ashramoan ko nadi aur grihash‍thashram ko sagar kaha hai[5].
