‘’ balapan mean abhh‍yas ( brahmachary ) karane vale, tarunavash‍tha mean vishayopabhogaroopi sansar ( grihash‍thashram ) karane vale, utarati avash‍tha mean munivritti se ya vanaprash‍th dharm se rahanevale, aur anh‍t mean ( patanjal ) yog se sannh‍yas dharm ke anusar brahmanh‍d mean ath‍ma ko lakar pran chho danevale’’-aisa sooryavansh ke parakrami rajaoan ka varnan kiya hai[1]. aise hi mahabharat ke shukanuprashh‍n mean yah kah kar, ki-

chatushh‍padi hi ni:shreni brahmanh‍yesha pratishthita.
etamaroohy ni:shrenian brahmaloke mahiyate..

‘’char ashram roopi char sidhi़yoan ka yah jina anh‍t mean brahmapad ko ja pahuancha hai; is zine se, arthath ek ashram se oopar ke doosere ashram mean-is prakar chadhate jane par, anh‍t mean manushh‍y brahmalok mean b daph‍pan pata hai’’[2], age is kram ka varnan kiya hai-

kashayan pachayith‍vashu shrenish‍thaneshu ch trishu.
pravrajechh‍ch paran sh‍thanan parivrajh‍yamanuth‍tamamh..

‘’is jine ki tin sidhi़yoan mean manushh‍y apane kilvish ( pap ) ka arthath sh‍varthaparayan ath‍mabuddhi ka athava vishayashakth‍ia roop dosh ka shighr hi kshay karake phir sannh‍yas le; parivrajh‍y arthath sannh‍yas hi sab mean shreshh‍th sh‍than hai’’[3]. ek ashram se doosare ashram mean jane ka yah silasila manush‍mriti mean bhi hai[4]. paranatu yah bat manu ke dhh‍yan mean achh‍chhi tarah a gee thi, ki inamean se antim arthath sannh‍yas ashram ki or logoan ki phijool pravritti hone se sansar ka karttavh‍y nashh‍t ho jayaga aur samaj bhi pangu ho javega. isi se manu ne sh‍pashh‍t maryada bana di hai, ki manushh‍y poorvashram mean grihadharm ke anusar parakram aur lokasangrah ke sab karm avashh‍y kare; isake pashh‍chath-

grihash‍thash‍tu yada pashh‍yedvalipalitamath‍man:.
apath‍yash‍yaiv chapath‍yan tadaranh‍yan samashrayeth..

jab sharir mean jhurriyaan p dane lagean aur nati ka muanh dekh p de tab grihash‍th vanaprash‍th hokar sannh‍yas le lean[5]. is maryada ka palan karana chahiye, kh‍yoanki manush‍mriti mean hi likha hai, ki prath‍yek manushh‍y janh‍m ke sath hi apani pithapar rrishiyoan, pitaroan aur devataoan ke ( tin ) rrin ( karttavy ) le kar uth‍panh‍n hua hai. isaliye vedadhh‍yayan se rrishiyoan ka, putroth‍padan se pitaroan ka aur yajnakarmo se devata aadikoan ka, is prakar, pahale in tinoan rrinoan ko chukaye bina manushh‍y sansar chho dakar sannh‍yas nahian le sakata. yadi vah aisa karega ( arthath sannh‍yas lega ), to janh‍m se hi paye hue qarje ko bebaq n karane ke karan vah adhogati ko pahuanchega[6]. prachin hinh‍dudharmashash‍tr ke anusar bap ka qarj, miyad guzar jane ka sabab n batala kar, bete ya nati ko bhi chukana p data tha aur kisi ka karj chukane se pahale hi mar jane mean b di durgati mani jati thi.
