vidur ji ne kaha- rajan! manushhy ko chahiye ki vah jisaki parajay nahianan chahata, usako bina poochhe bhi achhchhi athava buri, kalhyan karane vali ya anishht karane vali- jo bhi bat ho, bata de isaliye rajan! jisase samasht kauravoan ka hit ho, maian vahi bat apase kahooanga. maian jo kalhyanakari evan dharmayukht vachan kah raha hooan, unhhean ap dhhyan dekar sunean. bharat! asat upayoan[2] adi ka prayog karake jo kapatapoorn kary siddh hote haian, unamean ap man mat lagaiye. isi prakar achhchhe upayoan ka upayog karake savadhani ke sath kiya gaya koee karm yadi saphal n ho to buddhiman purush ko usake liye man mean ghlani nahianan karani chahiye. kisi prayojan se kiye gaye karmoan mean pahale prayojan ko samajh lena chahiye. khoob soch-vichar kar kam karana chahiye, jalhdabaji se kisi kam ka aramhbh nahianan karana chahiye. dhir manushhy ko uchit hai ki pahale karmoan ka prayojan, parinam tatha apani unhnati ka vichar karake phir kam aramhbh kare ya n kare. raja sthiti, labh, hani, khajana, desh tatha danhd adi ki matra ko nahianan janata, vah rajhy par sthir nahian rah sakata. jo inake pramanoan ko uparyukht prakar se thik-thik janata hai tatha dharm aur arth ke jnan mean dattachitt rahata hai, vah rajhy ko prapht karata hai. ‘ab to rajhy prapht ho hi gaya’-aisa samajhakar anuchit bartav nahianan karana chahiye. uddanhdata samhpatti ko usi prakar nashht kar deti hai, jaise suandar roop ko budhapa. jaise machhali badhiya khady vashtu se dhaki huee lohe ki kaanti ko lobh mean p dakar nigal jati hai, usase hone vale parinam par vichar nahianan karati (atev mar jati hai).

raja vriksh ki bhaanti achhchhi tarah phoolane (prasanhn rahane) par bhi phal se khali rahe.[4] yadi phal se yukht (dene vala) ho to bhi jis par chadha n ja sake, aisa (pahuanch ke bahar) hokar rahe. kachhcha[5] hone par bhi pake (shaktisamhpanhn) ki bhaanti apane ko prakat kare. aisa karane se vah nashht nahianan hota. jo raja netr, man, vani aur karm- in charoan se praja ko prasanhn karata hai, usi se praja prasanhn rahati hai. jaise vhyagh se hiran bhayabhit hote haian, usi prakar jisase samasht prani darate haian, vah samudr paryanht prithvi ka rajhy pakar bhi prajajanoan ke dvara thyag diya jata hai. anhyay mean sthit hua raja bap-dadoan ka rajhy pakar bhi apane karmoan se use is tarah bhrashht kar deta hai, jaise hava badal ko chhinhn-bhinhn kar deti hai. paramhpara se sajhjan purushoan dvara kiye hue dharm ka acharan karane vale raja ke rajhy ki prithhvi dhan-dhanhy se poorn hokar unhnati ko prapht hoti hai or usake aishvary ko badhati hai. jo raja dharm ko chho data aur adharm ka anushhthan karata hai, usaki rajhyabhoomi ag par rakhe hue cham de ki bhaanti sankuchit ho jati hai.[6]
vidur dvara dhritarashtr ko dharmakaryoan ke vishay mean samajhana
vidur kahatean haian- rajan! doosare rashhtroan ka nash karane ke liye jis prakar ka prayathn kiya jata hai, usi prakar ki tathparata apane rajhy ki raksha ke liye karani chahiye. dharm se hi rajhy prapht karean aur dharm se hi usaki raksha karean; khyoanki dharmamoolak rajhyalakshhmi ko pakar n to raja use chho data hai aur n vahi raja ko chho dati hai. nirarthak bolane vale pagal tatha bakavad karane vale bachhche se bhi sab or se usi bhaanti sar bat grahan karani chahiye, jaise paththaroan mean se sona liya jata hai. jaise shilonchhavritti se jivika chalane vala anaj ka ek-ek dana chugata rahata hai, usi prakar dhir purush ko jahaan-tahaan se bhavapoorn vachanoan, sooktiyoan aur sathkarmoan ka sangrah karate rahana chahiye. gauean ganhdh se, brahman log vedoan se, raja guphtacharoan se aur anhy sadharan log aankhoan se dekha karate haian. rajan! jo gay b di kathinaee se duhane deti hai, vah bahut khlesh uthati hai; kiantu jo asani se doodh deti hai, use log kashht nahianan dete.[6] jo dhatu bina garam kiye mu d jate haian, unhhean ag mean nahianan tapate. jo kath shvayan jhuka hota hai, use koee jhukane ka prayathn nahianan karata. is drishhtaant ke anusar buddhiman purush ko adhik balavan ke samane jhuk jana chahiye; jo adhik balavan ke samane jhukata hai, vah mano inhdr ko pranam karata hai. pashuoan ke rakshak ya shvami haian badal, rajaoan ke sahayak haian, mantri, striyoan ke bandhu (rakshak) haian pati aur brahmanoan ke banhdhav haian ved. sathy se dharm ki raksha hoti hai, yog se vidya surakshit hoti hai, saphaee se (suandar) roop ki raksha hoti hai aur sadachar se kul ki raksha hoti hai. bhali-bhaanti sanbhalakar rakhane se naj ki raksha hoti hai, pherane se gho de surakshit rahate haian, baanrabar dekh-bhal karane se gauoan ki tatha maile vashtroan se striyoan ki raksha hoti hai. mera aisa vichar hai ki sadachar se hin manushhy ka keval ooancha kul manhy nahianan ho sakata; khyoanki nich kul mean uthpanhn manushhy ka bhi sadachar shreshhth mana jata hai.
jo doosaroan ke dhan, roop, parakram, kulinata, sukh, saubhaghy aur samhman par dah karata hai, usaka yah rog asadhhy hai. n karane yoghy kam karane se, karane yoghy kam mean pramad karane se tatha kary siddhi hone ke pahale hi manhtr prakat ho jane se darana chahiye aur jisase nasha chadhe, aisi madak vashtu nahianan pini chahiye. vidya ka mad, dhan ka mad aur tisara ooanche kul ka mad hai. ye ghamandi purushoan ke liye to mad haian, parantu ye (vidya, dhan aur kulinata) hi sajhjan purushoan ke liye dam ke sadhan haian. kabhi kisi kary mean sajhjanoan dvara prarthit hone par dushht log apane ko prasiddh dushht janate hue bhi sajhjan manane lagate haian. manashvi purushoan ko sahara dene vale sant haian; santoan ke bhi sahare sant hi haian, dushhtoan ko bhi sahara dene vale sant haian, par dushht log santo ko sahara nahianan dete. achhchhe vashtr vala sabha ko jitata[7] hai; jisake pas gau hai, vah (doodh, ghi, makkhan, khova adi padarthoan ke ashvadan se) mithe shvad ki akaanksha ko jit leta hai, savari se chalane vala marg ko jit leta (tay kar leta) hai aur shilashvabhav vala purush sab par vijay pa leta hai. purush mean shil hi pradhan hai; jisaka vahi nashht ho jata hai, is sansar mean usaka jivan, dhan aur bandhuoan se koee prayojan siddh nahianan hota.[8]
iandriyoan ko vash mean rakhane ka mahattv
bharatashreshhth! dhanonhmatht (tamas shvabhav vale) purushoan ke bhojan mean maans ki, madhhyam shreni valoan ke bhojan mean gauras ki tatha daridr ke bhojan mean tel ki pradhanata hoti hai. daridr purush sada shvadishht bhojan hi karate haian; khyoanki bhookh unake bhojan mean (vishesh) shvad uthpanhn kar deti hai aur vah bhookh dhaniyoan ke liye sarvatha durlabh hai. rajan! sansar mean dhaniyoan ko pray: bhojan ko pachane ki shakti nahianan hoti, kiantu daridroan ke pet mean kath bhi pach jate haian. adham purushoan ko jivika n hone se bhay lagata hai, madhhyam shreni ke manushhyoan ko mrityu se bhay hota hai; parantu uttam purushoan ko apaman se hi mahan bhay hota hai.[8] yoan to (madak vashtuoan ke) pine ka nasha adi bhi nasha hi hai, kiantu aishvary ka nasha to bahut-hi bura hai; khyoanki aishvary ke mad se matavala purush bhrashht hue bina hosh mean nahianan ata. vash mean n hone ke karan vishayoan mean ramane vali indriyoan se yah sansar usi bhaanti kashht pata hai, jaise soory adi grahoan se nakshatr tirashkrit ho jate haian. jo manushhy jivoan ko vash mean karane vali sahaj paanch indriyoan se jit liya gaya, usaki apattiyaan shuklapaksh ke chandrama ki bhaanti badhati haian. indriyoan sahit man ko jite bina hi jo mantriyoan ko jitane ki ichhchha karata hai ya mantriyoan ko apane adhin kiye bina shatru jitana chahata hai, us ajitendriy purush ko sab log thyag dete haian. jo pahale indriyoan sahit man hi shatru samajhakar jit leta hai, usake bad yadi vah mantriyoan tatha shatruoan ko jitane ki ichhchha kare to use saphalata milati hai.

jisane shvayan apane atma ko hi jit liya hai, usaka athma hi usaka bandhu hai. vahi athma jita gaya hone par sachhcha bandhu aur vahi n jita hua hone par shatru hai. rajan! jis prakar sookshhm chhed vale jal mean phansi huee do b di-b di machhaliyaan milakar jal ko kat dalati haian, usi prakar ye kam aur krodh donoan vivek ko lupt kar dete haian. jo is jagat mean dharm tatha arth ka vichar karake vijay sadhan-samagri ka sangrah karata hai, vahi us samagri se yukt hone ke karan sada sukhapoorvak samriddhishali hota rahata hai. jo chitt ke vikarabhoot paanch indriy roopi bhitari shatruoan ko jite bina hi doosare shatruoan ko jitana chahata hai, use shatru parajit kar dete haian. indriyoan par adhikar n hone ke karan b de-b de़ sadhu bhi apane karmoan se tatha raja log rajy ke bhog vilasoan se bandhe rahate haian.[9]

papachari dushhtoan ka tyag n karake unake sath mile rahane se niraparadh sajjanoan ko bhi un (papiyoan) ke saman hi danh d prapt hota hai, jaise sookhi lak di mean mil jane se gili bhi jal jati hai; isaliye dushht purushoan ke sath kabhi mel n karean. jo paanch vishayoan ki or dau dane vale apane paanch indriy-roopi shatruoan ko moh ke karan vash mean nahianan karata, us manushhy ko vipatti gras leti hai. gunoan mean dosh n dekhana, saralata, pavitrata, santosh, priy vachan bolana, indriyadaman, satyabhashan tatha saralata- ye gun duratma purushoan mean nahianan hote. bharat! atmajnan, akrodh, sahanashilata, dharmaparayanata, vachan ki raksha tatha dan- ye gun adham purushoan mean nahianan hote. moorkh manushhy vidvanoan ko gali aur ninda se kashht pahuanchate haian. gali dene vala pap ka bhagi hota hai aur kshama karane vala pap se mukt ho jata hai.
dushht purushoan ka bal hai hiansa, rajaoan ka bal hai dand dena, striyoan ka bal hai seva aur gunavanoan ka bal hai kshama. rajan! vani ka poorn sanyam to bahut kathin mana hi gaya hai; parantu vishesh arthayukt aur chamatkarapoorn vani bhi adhik nahianan boli ja sakati.[10] rajan! madhur shabdoan mean kahi huee bat anek prakar se kalyan karati hai; kiantu vahi yadi katu shabdoan mean kahi jay to mahan anarth ka karan ban jati hai. banoan se biandha hua ttha pharase se kata hua van bhi akuanrit ho jata hai; kiantu katu vachan khakar vani se kiya hua bhayanak ghav nahianan bharata. karni, nalik aur narach namk banoan ko sharir se nikal sakate haian, parantu katu vachanaroopi ban nahianan nikala ja sakata; kyoanki vah hriday ke bhitar dhans jata hai.
katu vachan roopi ban mukh se nikalakar doosaroan ke marm-shthan par hi chot karate haian; unase ahat manushhy rat-din ghulata rahata hai. at: vidvan purush doosaroan par unaka prayog n karean. devata log jise parajay dete haian; usaki buddhi ko pahale hi har lete haian; isase vah nich karmoan par hi adhik drishti rakhata hai. vinashakal upasthit hone par buddhi malin ho jati hai; phir to nyay ke saman pratit hone vala anyay hriday se bahar nahianan nikalata. bharatashreshhth! apake putroan ki vah buddhi panhdavoan ke prati virodh se vyapt ho gayi hai; ap unhean pahachan nahianan rahe haian. maharaj dhritarashhtr! jo rajalakshanoan se sampann hone ke karan tribhuvan ka bhi raja ho sakata hai, vah apaka ajnakari yudhishthir hi is prithvi ka shasak hone yogy hai. vah dharm tatha arth ke tattv ko janane vala, tej aur buddhi se yukt, poorn saubhagyashali tatha apake sabhi putroan se badh-chadhakar hai. rajendr! dharmadhariyoan mean shreshhth yudhishthir daya, saumyabhav tatha apake prati gaurav buddhi ke karan bahut kashht sah raha hai.[11]
