shribhagavanuvach-
oorddhvamoolamadh:shakhamashvatthan prahuravyayamh .
chhandaansi yasy parnani yastan ved s vedavith ॥1॥

shribhagavan bole- adi purush parameshvar roop mool vale aur brahm roop mukhy shakha vale jis sansar roop pipal ke vriksh ko avinashi kahate haian; tatha ved jisake patte kahe gaye haian- us sansar roop vriksh ko jo purush mool sahit tattv se janata hai, vah ved ke tatpary ko janane vala hai ॥1॥

bhavanuvad- shrikrishn sansar ke bandhan ko chhedane vale tatha asang haian. atma arthat jiv eeshvar aansh hai. krishn hi kshar tatha akshar donoan se utkrisht purush haian. ye sab batean pandrahavean adhyay mean alochit huee haian.

pichhale adhyay [1] mean kaha gaya ki jo anany bhakti se meri upasana karate haian, ve tinoan gunoan ka atikraman kar brahmanubhooti ke yogy hote haian. vahaan yadi yah prashn ho ki bhakti yog dvara manushy roop apaki upasana karane se brahmabhav kis prakar prapt hota hai, to isaka uttar yah hai ki vastav mean maian manushy hi hooan, kiantu maian us brahm ki bhi pratishtha arthat paramh‌ ashray hooan is sootravaky ke vrittiroop yah pandrahavaan adhyay arambh ho raha hai. vahaan [2] yah kaha gaya hai ki ve gunasamooh ka attikram kar brahmanubhav ke yogy hote haian. to, yah gunamay sansar kya hai? yah kahaan se utpann hua hai? unaki bhakti dvara sansar ka atikraman karane vale jiv kaun haian? in prashnoan ki apeksha mean sarvapratham atishayokti alankar dvara sansar ka varnan karate hue kahate haian ki yah sansar adbhut ashvatth vriksh hai.

sabhi lokoan se oopar satyalok mean prakriti roop bij se utthit pratham praroharoop (aankur) vah mahath‌-tattvatmak chaturmukh ek hi moolavala hai. 'adh:' arthat svarg-bhuv:, bhoolok adi mean anant devata, gandharv, kinnar, asur, rakshas, pret-bhoot, manushy, gay, ashv adi pashu, pakshi, krimi, kit, patang, sthavar tak isaki shakhaean haian. dharm adi charoan purusharthoan ko sampann karane vala hone ke karan yah uttam kahalata hai. isaka doosara arth is prakar hai - bhaktiman logoan ke lie yah sansar agami kal nahian rahega arthat nashtapray hai, kiantu abhaktoan ke lie yah 'avyayam' arthat anashvar hai. 'chhandaansi' - aishvaryakami purush shvet chhag (bakara) dvara vayu devata ka yajn kareange, santanakami vyakti ekadash iandr devataoan ka yajn kareange - in karm-pratipadakoan ka varnan vedoan mean hai. at:sansar ka varddhan karane vala hone ke karan ved vriksh ke patte ke saman haian. patr dvara hi vriksh shobha pata hai, jo yah janate haian. kathopanishad [3] mean bhi kaha gaya hai- yah sansar oopar moolavala, niche shakha vala, sanatan ashvatth vriksh hai.
