vyakhya- ‘aharastvapi sarvasy trividho bhavati priyah’- chauthe shlok mean bhagavan ne arjun ke prashn ke anusar manushyoan ki nishtha ki pariksha ke lie sattvik, rajas aur tamas- tin tarah ke yajan bataye. parantu jisaki shraddha, ruchi, priyata yajan-poojan mean nahian, unaki nishtha ki pahachan kaise ho? isake lie bataya ki jinaki yajan-poojan mean shraddha nahian hai, aise manushyoan ko bhi sharir-nirvah ke lie bhojan to karana hi p data hai, chahe ve nastishk hoan, chahe astik hoan, chahe vaidik athava eesaee, parasi, yahoodi, yavan adi kisi sanpraday ke hoan. un sabake lie yahaan ‘aharastvapi’ pad dekar kaha hai ki nishtha ki pahachan ke lie keval yajan-poojan hi nahian hai, pratyut bhojan ki ruchi se hi unaki nishtha ki pahachan ho jaegi. manushy ka man svabhavik hi jis bhojan mean lalachata hai arthat jis bhojan ki bat sunakar, use dekhakar aur use chakhakar man, akrisht hota hai, usake anusar usaki sattviki, rajasi ya tamasi nishtha mani jati hai. yahaan koee aisa bhi kah sakata hai ki sattvik, rajas aur tamas ahar kaisa-kaisa hota hai- ise batane ke lie yah prakaran aya hai. sthooladrishti se dekhe par to aisa hi dikhata hai; parantu vicharapoorvak gaharaee se dekhe par yah bat dikhati nahian. vastav mean yahaan ahar ka varnan nahian hai, pratyut ahari ka ruchi ka varnan hai. atah ahari ki shraddha ki pahachan kaise ho? yah batane ke lie hi yah prakaran aya hai.
