videharaj! mere pitamah vasishth ji, kashh‍yap-gotriy rrishh‍yashrrigan, ved, tanh‍dy, krip, kakshivanh, kamath adi, yavakrit, vakh‍taoan mean shreshth dron, ayu, matang, dath‍t, drupad tatha math‍sh‍y - ye sab tapash‍ya ka ashray lene se hi apani-apani prakriti ko praph‍t hue the. indriyasanyam aur tap se hi ve vedoan ke vidvan tatha samaj mean pratishthit hue the. prithh‍vinath! pahale aangira, kashh‍yap, vasishth aur bhrigu - ye hi char mool gotr prakat hue the. anh‍y gotr karm ke anusar pichhe uth‍panh‍n hue haian. ve gotr aur unake nam un gotr-pravartak maharshiyoan ki tapash‍ya se hi sadhoo-samaj mean suvikhh‍yat evan samh‍manit hue haian.

janak ne poochha- bhagavanh! ap mujhe sab varnoan ke vishesh dharm bataiye, phir samanh‍y dharmoan ka bhi varnan kijiye; kh‍yoanki ap sab vishayoan ka pratipadan karane mean kushal haian.

parashar ji ne kaha- rajan! dan lena, yajn karana tatha vidya padhana-ye brahmanoan ke vishesh dharm haian. (jo unaki jivika ke sadhan haian) praja ki raksha karana kshatriy ke liye shreshth dharm hai. nareshh‍var! krishi, pashupalan aur vh‍yapar- ye vaishh‍yoan ke karm haian tatha dvijatiyoan ki seva shoodr ka dharm hai. maharaj! ye varnoan ke vishesh dharm bataye gaye haian. tat! ab unake sadharan dharmoan ka vish‍tarapoorvak varnan mujhase suno. kroorata ka abhav (daya), aanhisa, apramad (savadhani), devata-pitar adi ko unake bhag samarpit karana athava dan dena, shraddhakarm, atithisath‍kar, sath‍y, akrodh, apani hi path‍ni mean santusht rahana, pavitrata rakhana, kabhi kisi ke dosh n dekhana, ath‍majnan tatha sahanashilata - ye sabhi varnoan ke samanh‍y dharm haian. narashreshth! brahman, kshatriy aur vaishh‍y - ye tin varn dvijati kahalate haian. uparyukh‍t dharmoan mean inh‍hian ka adhikar hai. nareshh‍var! ye tin varn viparit karmoan mean pravrit hone par patit ho jate haian. sath‍purushoan ka ashray le apane-apane karmoan mean lage rahane se jaise inaki unh‍nati hoti hai, vaise hi viparit karmoan ke acharan se patan bhi ho jata hai. yah nishh‍chay hai ki shoodr patit nahian hota tatha vah upanayan adi sansh‍kar ka bhi adhikari nahian hai. use vaidik agnihotr adi karmoan ke anushthan ka bhi adhikar nahian praph‍t hai; parantu uparyukh‍t samanh‍y dharmoan ka usake liye nishedh bhi nahian kiya gaya hai. maharaj videhanaresh! ved-shastroan ke jnan se samh‍panh‍n dvij shoodr ko praja‍pati ke tulh‍y batate haian (kh‍yoanki vah paricharya dvara samash‍t praja ka palan karata hai); parantu narenh‍dr! maian to use samh‍poorn jagat ke pradhan rakshak bhagavan vishh‍nu ke roop mean dekhata hooan. (kh‍yoanki palan karm vishh‍nu ka hi hai aur vah apane us karm dvara palanakarta shrihari ki aradhana karake unh‍hian ko praph‍t hota hai) hinavarn ke manushh‍y (shudr) yadi apana uddhar karana chahean to sadachar ka palan karate hue ath‍ma ko unh‍nat banane vali samash‍t kriyaoan ka anushthan karean; parantu vaidik manh‍tr ka uchh‍charan n karean. aisa karane se ve dosh ke bhagi nahian hote haian.
