brahman ko uchit hai ki vah maun hokar prithh‍vi ya dishaoan ki or n dekhate hue vidhivat bhojan kare, kisi ko apana jootha n de. kabhi bhi n to bahut adhik aur n kam hi bhojan kare. pratidin utana hi anh‍n khay, jisase apane ko kashh‍t n ho. jis bhojan mean bal ya koee ki da p da ho, jise muanh se phooankakar thanda kiya gaya ho, usako akhady samajhana chahiye. aise anh‍n ko bhojan kar lene par chanh‍drayan-vrat ka acharan karana chahiye. bhojan ke sh‍than se uth jane ke bad jise phir chhoo diya gaya ho, jo pair se chhoo gaya ya laangh diya gaya ho, vah rakshas ke khane yogh‍y anh‍n hai; aisa samajhakar usaka th‍yag kar dena chahiye. yadi achaman kiye bina hi bhojan karane vala dvij bhojan ke asan se uth jay to turant sh‍nan karana chahiye, anh‍yatha vah apavitr hi rahata hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- bhagavan! gauoan ke age ghas ki mutthi dalane ka vidhan aur til ka mahath‍may kh‍ya hai tatha ganh‍ne se chanh‍drama ki uth‍patti kis prakar huee hai- yah batane ki kripa kijiye.

shribhagavan ne kaha- rajan! bailoan ko jagat ka pita samajhana chahiye aur gauean sansar ki mataean haian, unaki pooja karane se samh‍poorn pitaroan aur devataoan ki pooja ho jati hai. jinake gobar se lipane par sabha-bhavan, pauansal, ghar aur devamanh‍dir bhi shuddh ho jate haian, un gauoan se badhakar aur kaun prani ho sakata hai? jo manushh‍y ek sal tak sh‍vayan bhojan karane ke pahale pratidin doosare ki gay ko mutthi ghas khilaya karata hai, usako prath‍yek samay gau ki seva karane ka phal praph‍t hota hai. gomata ke samane ghas rakhakar is prakar kahana chahiye- ‘sansar ki samash‍t gauean meri mataean aur samh‍poorn vrishabh mere pita haian. gomataoan! maianne tumh‍hari seva mean yah ghas ki mutthi arpan ki hai, ise sh‍vikar karo.’

yah mantr padhakar athava gayatri ka uchh‍charan karake ekagrachitt se ghas ko abhimanh‍trit karake gau ko khila de. aisa karane se jis punh‍y phal ki praph‍ti hoti hai, use suno. us purush ne jan-boojhakar ya anajan mean jo-jo pap kiye hote haian, vah sab nashh‍t ho jate haian tatha usako kabhi bure sh‍vapn nahian dikhayi dete. til b de pavitr aur papanashak hote haian, bhagavan narayan se unaki uttpatti huee hai. isaliye shraddh mean til ki b di prashansa ki gayi hai aur til ka dan ath‍yant uth‍tam dan bataya gaya hai. til dan kare, til bhakshan kare aur sabere til ka ubatan lagakar sh‍nan kare tatha sada hi apane muanh se ‘til-til' ka uchh‍charan kiya kare; kh‍yoanki til sab papoan ko nashh‍t karane vale hote haian. rajanh! brahman ko sh‍vayan til perane ki mashin mean til dalakar tel nahian perana chahiye. jo mohavash sh‍vayan hi til perata hai, vah raurav narak mean p data hai. yudhishthir! chanh‍drama ikshu (ganh‍ne)– ke vansh mean uth‍panh‍n hua hai aur brahman chanh‍drama ke vansh mean uth‍panh‍n hue haian. isaliye brahman ko kolh‍hoo mean ganh‍na nahian perana chahiye.
