aisi sthiti mean jo sadhusang ke liye nity utkanthit rahate hoan- usase kabhi tript n hote hoan, jinaki buddhi agam praman ko hi shreshth manati ho, jo sada santusht rahate tatha lobh-moh ka anusaran karane vale arth aur kam ki upeksha karake dharm ko hi uttam samajhate hoan, aise mahapurushoan ki seva mean raho aur unase apana sandeh poochho. un santoan ke sadachar, yajn aur svadhyay adi shubh-karmoan ke anushthan mean kabhi badha nahian p dati. unamean achar, usako batane vale ved-shastr tatha dharm- in tinoan ki ekata hoti hai.

yudhishthir ne poochha- pitamah! meri buddhi sanshay ke apar samudr mean doob rahi hai. maian isake par jana chahata hooan, kiantu dhooandhane par bhi mujhe isaka koee kinara nahian dikhayi deta. yadi pratyaksh, agam aur shishtachar- ye tinoan hi praman haian to inaki to prithak-prithak upalabdhi ho rahi hai aur dharm ek hai, phir ye tinoan kaise dharm ho sakate haian?

bhishm ji ne kaha- rajan! prabal duratmaoan dvara jise hani pahuanchayi jati hai, us dharm ka svaroop yadi tum is tarah praman-bhed se tin prakar ka manate ho to tumhara yah vichar thik nahian hai. vastav mean dharm ek hi hai, jis par tin prakar se vichar kiya jata hai- tinoan pramanoan dvara usaki samiksha ki jati hai. yah nishchay samajho ki dharm ek hi hai. tinoan pramanoan dvara ek hi dharm ka darshan hota hai. maian yah nahian manata ki ye tinoan praman bhinn-bhinn dharm ka pratipadan karate haian. ukt tinoan pramanoan ke dvara jo dharmamay marg bataya gaya hai, usi par chalate raho. tark ka sahara lekar dharm ki jijnasa karana kadapi uchit nahian hai.

bharatashreshth! meri is bat mean tumhean kabhi sandeh nahian hona chahiye. maian jo kuchh kahata hooan, use aandhoan aur gooangoan ki tarah bina kisi shanka ke manakar usake anusar acharan karo. ajatashatroan! ahiansa, saty, akrodh aur dan- in charoan ka sada sevan karo. yah sanatan dharm hai.

mahabaho! tumhare pita, pitamah adi ne brahmanoan ke sath jaisa bartav kiya hai, usi ka tum hi anusaran karo, kyoanki brahman dharm ke upadeshak haian. jo murkh manushy praman ko bhi apraman banata hai, usaki bat ko pramanik nahian manana chahiye, kyoanki vah keval vivad karane vala hai. tum brahmanoan ka hi vishesh adar-satkar karake unaki seva mean lage raho aur yah jan lo ki ye sanpoorn lok brahmanoan ke hi adhar par tike hue haian.

yudhishthir ne poochha- pitamah! jo manushy dharm ki ninda karate haian aur jo dharm ka acharan karate haian, ve kin lokoan mean jate haian? ap is vishay ka varnan kijiye.

bhishm ji ne kaha- yudhishthir! jo manushy rajogun aur tamogun se malinachitt hone ke karan dharm se droh karate haian, ve narak mean p date haian. maharaj! jo saty aur saralata mean tatpar hokar sada dharm ka palan karate haian, ve manushy svargalok ka sukh bhogate haian. achary ki seva karane se manushyoan ko ekamatr dharm ka hi sahara rahata hai aur jo dharm ki upasana karate haian, ve devalok mean jate haian. manushy hoan ya devata, jo sharir ko kasht dekar bhi dharmacharan mean lage rahate haian tatha lobh aur dvesh ka tyag kar dete haian, ve sukhi hote haian.
