vaishampayan ji kahate haian- janamejay! bhishhm ji kahate haian- mahabhag! tum to sada paratanhtr ho (kal,adrishht aur eeshhvar ke adhin ho), phir apane ko shubhashubh karmoan ka karan khyoan samajhate ho? vashtav mean karmoan ka karan khya hai, yah vishay athyanht sookshhm tatha indriyoan ki pahuanch se bahar hai.
gautami brahmani, vyadh, sarp, mrityu ki katha
is vishay mean vidvan purush gautami brahmani, vhyadh, sarp, mrithyu aur kal ke sanvadaroop is prachin itihas ka udaharan diya karate haian. kunhtinanhdan! poorvakal mean gautami namavali ek boodhi brahmani thi, jo shanti ke sadhan mean sanlaghn rahati thi. ek din usane dekha, usake ikalaute bet ko saanp ne dans liya aur usaki chetana shakti lupht ho gee. itane hi mean arjunak nam vale ek vhyadh ne us saanp ko taant ke phaans mean baandh liya aur amarshavash vah use gautami ke pas le aya lakar usane kaha- ‘mahabhage! yahi vah nich sarp hai, jisane tumhhare putr ko mar dala hai. jalhdi batao, maian kis tarah isaka vadh karooan? ‘maian ise ag mean jhoank dooan ya isake tookade़-took de kar dalooan? balak ki hathya karane vala yah papi sarp ab adhik samay tak jivit rahane yoghy nahian hai’ gautami boli- arjunak! chho d de is sarp ko. too abhi nadan hai. tujhe is sarp ko nahian marana chahiye. honahar ko koee tal nahian sakata- is bat ko janate hue bhi isaki upeksha karake kaun apane oopar pap ka bhari bojh ladega? sansar mean dharmacharan karake jo apane ko hal ke rakhate haian [2] ve pani ke oopar chalane vali nauka ke saman bhavasagar se par ho jate haian; parantu jo pap ke bojh se apane ko bojhil bana lete haian, ve jal mean pheanke hue hathiyar ki bhaanti narak-samudr mean doob jate hai. isako mar dalane se mera yah putr jivit nahian ho sakata aur is sarp ke jivit rahane par bhi tumhhari khya hani ho sakati hai? aisi desha mean is jivit prani ke pranoan ka nash karake kaun yamaraj ke ananht lok mean jay?

vhyadh ne kaha- gun aur avagun ko janane vali devi! maian janata hooan ki b de-b de़ log kisi bhi prani ko kashht mean p da dekh isi tarah du:khi ho jate haian. parantu ye upadesh to shvashth purush ke liye haian (du:khi manushhy ke man par inaka koee prabhav nahian p data). at: maian is nich sarp ko avashhy mar dalooanga. shanti chahane vale purush kal ki gati batate haian (arthath kal ne hi isaka nash kar diya hai, aisa kahate hue shok ka thyag karake santosh dharan karate haian) parantu jo arthavethta haian- badala lena janate haian, ve shatru ka nash karake turant hi shok chho d dete haian. doosare log shrey ka nash hone par mohavash sada usake liye shok karate rahate haian ; at: is shatrubhoot sarp ke mare jane par tum bhi tathkal hi apane putr- shok ko thyag dena. gautami boli- arjunak! ham-jaise logoan ko kabhi kisi tarah ki hani se bhi pi da nahian hoti. dharmathma sajhjan purush sada dharm mean hi lage rahate haian. mera yah balak sarvatha marane hi vala tha; isaliye maian is sarp ko marane mean asamarth hooan. brahmanoan ko krodh nahian hota; phir ve krodhavash doosaroan ko pi da kaise de sakate haian; at: sadho! too bhi komalata ka ashray lekar is sarp ko aparadh ko kshama kar aur ise chho d de. vhyadh ne kaha- devi! is sarp ko mar dalane se jo bahutoan ka bhala hoga, yahi akshay labh hai. balavanoan se balapoorvak labh uthana hi uthtam labh hai. kal se jo labh hota hai vahi sachhcha labh hai. is nich sarp ke jivit rahane se tumhhean koee shrey nahian mil sakata. gautami boli- arjunak! shatruko kaid karake use mar dalane se khya labh hota hai; tatha shatruko apane hath mean pakar use n chho dane se kis abhishht manorath ki prapti ho jati hai? saumhy! kya karan hai ki maian is sarp ke aparadh ko kshama n karooan? tatha kisaliye isako chhutakara dilane ka prayathn n karooan?[3]
vhyadh ne kaha- gautami! is ek sarp se bahutere manushhyoan ke jivan ki raksha karana chahiye.[4] anekoan ki jan lekar ek ki raksha karana kadapi uchit nahian hai. dharmajn purush aparadhi ko thyag dete haian; isaliye tum bhi is papi sarp ko mar dalo. gautami boli- vhyadh! is sarp ke mare jane par mera putr pun: jivan prapht kar lega, aisi bat nahian hai. isaka vadh karane se doosara koee labh bhi mujhe nahian dikhayi deta hai. isaliye is sarp ko tum jivit chho d do. vhyadhane kaha- devi! vritrasur ka vadh karake devaraj inhdr shreshhth pad ke bhagi hue aur trishooladhari rudradev ne daksh ke yajn ka vidhhvans karake usamean apane liye bhag prapht kiya. tum bhi devataoan dvara kiye gaye is bartav ka hi palan karo. is sarp ko shighr hi mar dalo. is kary mean tumhhean shanka nahian karani chahiye.
sarp evan arjunak ka sanvad
bhishhm ji kahate haian- rajan! vhyadh ke bar-bar kahane aur ukasane par bhi mahabhaga gautami ne sarp ko marane ka vichar nahian kiya. us samay banhdhan se pi dit hokar dhire-dhire saans leta hua vah saanp b di kathinaee se apane ko sanbhalakar manhdashvar se manushhy ki vani mean bola. sarp ne kaha- o nadan arjunak! isamean mera khya dosh hai? maian to paradhin hooan. mrithyu ne mujhe vivash karake is kary ke liye prerit kiya tha. usake kahane se hi maianne is balak ko dansa hai, krodh se aur kamana se nahian. vhyadh! yadi isamean kuchh aparadh hai to vah mera nahian, mrithyu ka hai. vhyadh ne kaha- o sarp! yadyapi toone doosare ke adhin hokar yah pap kiya hai tathapi too bhi to isamean karan hai hi; isaliye too bhi aparadhi hai. sarp! jaise mitti ka bartan banate samay danhd aur chak adi ko bhi usamean karan mana jata hai, usi prakar too bhi is balak ke vadh mean karan hai. bhujangam! jo bhi aparadhi ho, vah mere liye vadhhy hai; panhnag! too bhi aparadhi hai hi; khyoanki too shvayan apane apako isake vadh mean karan batata hai. sarp ne kaha- vhyadh! jaise mitti ka bartan banane mean ye danhd–chakr adi sabhi karan paradhin hote haian, usi prakar maian bhi mrithyu ke adhin hooan. isaliye tumane jo mujh par dosh lagaya hai, vah thik nahian hai. athava yadi tumhhara yah mat ho ki ye danhd-chakr adi bhi ek-doosare ke prayojak hote haian; isaliye karan haian hi. kiantu aisa manane se ek-doosare ko prerana dene vala hone ke karan kary-karanabhav ke nirnay mean sandeh ho jata hai. aisi dasha mean n to mera koee dosh hai aur n maian vadhhy athava aparadhi hi hooan. yadi tum kisi ka aparadh samajhate ho to vah sare karanoan ke samooh par hi lagoo hota hai. vhyadh ne kaha- sarp! yadi man bhi lean ki too aparadh ka n to karan hai aur n karta hi hai to bhi is balak ki mrithyu to tere hi karan huee hai, isaliye maian tujhe marane yoghy samajhata hooan. sarp! tere mat ke anusar yadi dushhtatapoorn kary karake bhi karta us dosh se lipht nahian hota hai, tab to chor ya hathyare adi jo apane aparadhoan ke karan rajaoan ke yahaan vadhhy hote haian, unhhean bhi vashtav mean aparadhi ya dosh ka bhagi nahian hona chahiye.[5] at: too khyoan bahut bakavad kar raha hai. sarp ne kaha- vhyadh! prayojak (prerak) karta rahe ya n rahe, prayojhy karta ke bina kriya nahian hoti; isaliye yahaan yadyapi ham log (maian aur mrithyu) samanaroop se hetu; haian to bhi prayojak hone ke karan mrithyu par hi vishesharoop se yah aparadh lagaya ja sakata hai. yadi tum mujhe is balak ki mrithyu ka vashtut: karan manate ho to yah tumhhari bhool hai. vashtav mean vichar karane par prerana karane ke karan doosara hi (mrithyu hi) aparadhi sidv hoga; khyoki vahi praniyoan ke vinash mean aparadhi hai.[6]
vhyadh ne kaha- khoti budvivale nich sarp! too balahathyara aur krooratapoorn karm karane vala hai; at: nishhchay hi mere hath se vadh ke yoghy hai. too vadhhy hokar bhi apane ko nirdosh siddh karane ke liye khyoan bahut batean bana raha hai? sarp ne kaha- vhyadh! jaise yajaman ke yahaan yajn mean rritvijh log agni mean ahuti dalate haian; kiantu usaka phal unhhean nahian milata. isi prakar is aparadh ke phal ya danhd ko bhogane mean mujhe nahian sammilit karana chahiye.[7]
muthyu devata eanv sarp ka sanvad
bhishhm ji kahate haian- rajan! muthyu ki prerana se balak ko dansane vala sarp jab baran-bar apane ko nirdosh aur mrithyu ko doshi batane laga tab mrithyu devata bhi vahaan a pahuancha aur sarp se is prakar bola. mrithyu ne kaha- sarp! kal se prerit hokar hi maianne tujhe is balako dansane ke liye prerana di thi; at: is shishuprani ke vinash mean n to too karan hai aur n maian hi karan hooan. sarp! jaise hava badaloan ko idhar-udhar u da le jati hai, un badaloan ki hi bhaanti maian bhi kal ke vashamean hooan. sattvik, rajas aur tamas jitane bhi bhav haian, ve sab kalathmak haian aur kal ki hi prerana se praniyoan ko prapht hote haian. sarp! prithhvi athava shvarg lok mean jitane bhi shthavar-janghm padarth haian, ve sabhi kal ke adhin haian. yah sara jagat hi kalashvaroop hai. is lok mean jitane prakar ki pravriti-nivriti tatha unaki vikritiyaan (phal) haian, ye sab kal ke hi shvaroop haian. panhnag! soory, chanhdrama, jal, vayu, inhdr, agni, akash, prithhvi, mitr, parjanhy, vasu, aditi, nadi, samudr tatha bhav aur abhav- ye sabhi kalake dvara hi rache jate haian aur kal hi inaka sanhar kar deta hai. sarp! yah sab janakar bhi tum mujhe kaise doshi manate ho? aur yadi aisi sthiti mean bhi mujhe par dosharopan ho sakata hai, tab to too bhi doshi hi hai. sarh pane kaha- mrithyoan! maian tumhhean n to nirdosh batata hooan aur n doshi hi. maian to itana hi kah raha hooan ki is balako dansane ke liye toone hi mujhe prerit kiya tha. is vishay mean yadi kal ka dosh hai athava yadi vah bhi nirdosh hai to ho, mujhe kisi ke doshi ki jaanch nahian karani hai aur jaanch karane ka mujhe koee adhikar bhi nahian hai. parantu mere oopar jo dosh lagaya gaya hai, usaka nivaran to mujhe jaise-taise karana hi hai. mere kahane ka yah prayojan nahian hai ki mrithyu ka bhi dosh siddh ho jay.
sarp, arjunak evan mrityu devata ke madhy varta
bhishhm ji kahate haian- yudhishthir! tadananhtar sarp ne arjunak se kaha- ‘tumane mrithyu ki bat to sun li n? ab mujh niraparadh ko banhdhan mean baandhakar kashht dena tumhhare liye uchit nahian hai. vhyadh ne kaha- panhnag! maianne mrithyu ki aur teri-donoan ki batean sun lian; kiantu bhujangam! isase teri nirdoshata nahian siddh ho rahi hai. is balak ke vinash mean too aur mrithyu donoan hi karan ho; at: maian donoan ko hi karan ya aparadhi manata hooan, kisi ek ko aparadhi ya niraparadh nahian manata. shreshhth purushoan ko du:kh dene vale is kroor evan durathma mrithyu ko dhikhkar hai aur too to is pap ka karan hai hi; isaliye tujh papathma ka vadh maian avashhy karooanga. mrithyu ne kaha- vhyadh! ham donoan kal ke adhin hone ke karan vivash haian. ham to keval usake adesh ka palanamatr karate haian. yadi tum achhchhi tarah vichar karoge to ham logoan par dosharopan nahian karoge.[8] vhyadh ne kaha- mrithyu aur sarp! yadi tum donoan kal ke adhin ho to mujh tatashth vhyakti ko paropakari ke prati varsh aur doosaroan ka apakar karane vale tum donoan par krodh khyoan hota hai, yah maian janana chahata hooan. mrithyu ne kaha- vhyadh! jagat mean jo koee bhi cheshhta ho rahi hai, vah sab kal ki prerana se hi hoti hai. yah bat maianne tum se pahale hi bata di hai. at: vhyadh! ham donoan ko kal ke adhin aur kal ke hi adesh ka palak samajhakar tumhhean kabhi hamare oopar dosharopan nahian karana chahiye.
kal ka sanvad
bhishhm ji kahate haian- yudhishthir! tadananhtar dharmik vishay mean sandeh upasthit hone par kal bhi vahaan a pahuancha; tatha sarp, mrithyu evan arjanak vhyadh se is prakar bola. kal ne kaha- vhyadh! n to maian, n yah mrithyu aur n yah sarp hi is jiv ki mrithyu mean aparadhi haian. ham log kisi ki mrithyu mean prerak ya prayojak bhi nahian haian. arjunak! is balak ne jo karm kiya hai vahi isaki mrithyu mean prerak hua hai, doosara koee isake vinash ka karan nahian hai. yah jiv apane karm se hi marata hai. is bal kane jo karm kiya hai, usi se yah mrithyu ko prapht hua hai. isaka karm hi isake vinash ka karan hai. ham sab log karm ke hi adhin haian. sansar mean karm hi manushhyoan ka putr-pautr ke saman anugaman karane vala hai. karm hi du:kh-sukh ke samhbanhdh ka soochak hai. is jagat mean karm hi jaise parashpar ek-doosare ko prerit karate haian, vaise hi ham bhi karmoan se hi prerit hue haian. jaise kumhhar mitti ke loande se jo-jo bartan chahata hai vahi bana leta hai. usi prakar manushhy apane kiye hue karm ke anusar hi sab kuchh pata hai. jaise dhoop aur chhaya donoan nithy-niranhtar ek-doosare se mil rahate haian, usi prakar karm aur karta donoan apane karmanusar ek-doosare se samhbaddh hote haian. is prakar vichar karane se n maian, n mrithyu, n sarp, n tum (vhyadh) aur n yah boodhi gautami hi is balak ki mrithyu mean karan hai. yah shishu shvayan hi karm ke anusar apani mrithyu mean karan hua hai. nareshhvar! kal ke is prakar kahane par gautami brahmani ko yah nishhchay ho gaya ki manushhy ko apane karmoan ke anusar hi phal milata hai. phir vah arjunak se boli. gautami ne kaha- vhyadh! n yah kal, n sarp aur n mrithyu hi yahaan karan haian. yah balak apane karmoan se hi prerit ho kal ke dvara vinash ko prapht hua hai. arjunak! maianne bhi vaisa karm kiya tha jisase mera putr mar gaya hai. at: kal aur mrithyu apane-apane shthan ko padharean; aur too is sarpako chho d de. bhishhm ji kahate haian- rajanh! tadananhtar kal, mrithyu aur sarp jaise aye the vaise hi chale gaye; aur arjunak tatha gautami brahmani ka bhi shok door ho gaya. nareshhvar! is upakhhyanam ko sunakar tum shanti dharan karo, shok mean n p do. sab manushhy apane-apane karmoan ke anusar prapht hone vale lokoan mean hi jate haian. tumane ya duryodhan ne kuchh nahian kiya hai. kal ki hi yah sari karatoot samajho, jisase samasht bhoopal mare gaye haian. vaishampayan ji kahate haian- janamejay! bhishhm ki yah bat sunakar mahatejashvi dharmajn raja yudhishthir ki chinhta door ho gayi; tatha unhhoanne pun: is prakar prashhn kiya.[9]
