mahabharat vanaparv ke 'arjunabhigamanaparv' ke aantargat adhyay 33 mean bhimasen dvara yudhishthir se kshatriy dharm apanane ka anurodh kiya gaya hai, jisaka ullekh nimn prakar hai[1]-

bhimasen, yudhishthir se kahate hai- ‘isi dasha mean yadi ham pith n dikhakar yuddh mean nishkapat bhav se l date rahe aur usamean hamara vadh bhi ho jaye, to vah kalyanakarak hai; kyoanki marane se hamean uttam lokoan ki prapti hogi. ‘athava bharatashreshth! yadi ham hi in shatruoan ko marakar sari prithvi le lean to vahi hamare liye kalyanakar hai. ‘ham apane kshatriy-dharm ke anushthan mean sanlagn ho vair ka badala lena chahate haian aur sansar mean mahanh yash ka vistar karane ki abhilasha rakhate hai, atah hamare liye sab prakar se yuddh karana hi uchit hai. ‘shatruoan ne hamare rajy ko chhin liya hai, aise avasar par yadi ham apane kartavy ko samajhakar apane labh ke liye hi yuddh karean to bhi isake liye jarath mean hamari prashansa hi hagi, nianda nahian hogi.‘maharaj! jo dharm apane tatha mitroan ke liye klesh utpann karane vala ho, vah to sankat hi hai. vah dharm nahian, kudharm hai. ‘tat! jaise murdo ko du‘kh aur sukh donoan hi nahian hote, usi prakar jo sarvatha aur sarvada dharm mean hi tatpar rahakar unake anushthan se durbal ho gaya hai, use dharm aur arth donoan tyag dete haian. jisaka dharm keval dharm ke liye hi hota hai, vah dharm ke namapar keval klesh uthanevala manav buddhimanh nahian hai. jaise andha soory ki prabha ko nahian janata, usi prakar vah dharm ke arth ko bhi nahian samajhata hai. ‘jisaka dhan keval dhan ke liye hai, dan adi ke liye nahian hai, vah dhan ke tattv ko nahian janata. jaise sevak (gvaliya) van mean gauoan ki raksha karata hai, usi prakar vah us dhan ka doosare ke liye rakshakamatr hai. ‘jo keval arth ke hi sangrah ki atyant ichchha dakhane vala hai aur dharm evan kam ka anushthan nahian karata hai, vah brahm hatyare ke saman ghrinapatr hai aur sabhi praniyoan ke liye vadhy hai. ‘isi prakar jo nirantar kam ki hi abhilasha rakhakar dharm aur arth ka sampadan nahian karata, usake mitr nasht ho jate haian[2]aur yah dharm evan arth donoan se vanchit hi rah jata hai. ‘jaise pani sookh jane par usamean rahanevali machhali ki mrityu nishchit hai, usi prakar jo dharm arth se hin hokar keval kam mean hi raman karata hai, us kam (bhogasamagri) ki samapti hone par usaki bhi avashy mrityu ho jati hai. ‘isaliye vidvanh purush kabhi dharm aur arth ke sampadan mean pramad nahian karate haian dharm aur arth kam ki utpatti ke sthan haian[3]jaise arani agni ka utpatti sthan hai. ‘arth ka karan hai dharm aur dharm siddh hota hai arth-sangrah se. jaise megh se samudr ki pushti hoti hai aur samudr se megh ki poorti. is prakar dharm aur arth ko ek-doosare ke ashrit samajhana chahiye. ‘stri, mala, chandan adi dravyoan ke sparsh aur suvarn adi dhan ke labh se jo prasannata hoti hai, usake liye jo chitt mean sankalp uthata hai, usi ka nam kam hai. us kam ka sharir nahian dekha jata[4]. ‘

rajanh! dhan ki ichchha rakhanevale purush mahanh dharm ki abhilasha rakhata hai aur kamarthi manushy dhan chahata hai jaise dharm se dhan ki aur dhan se kam ki ichchha karata hai, us prakar vah kam se kisi doosari vastu ki ichchha nahian karata hai. ‘jaise phal upabhog mean akar kritarth ho jata hai, usase doosara phal nahian prapt ho sakata tatha jis prakar kashth se bhasm ban sakata hai; isi tarah buddhimanh purush ek kam se kisi doosare kam ki siddhi nahian manate, kyoanki vah sadhan nahian, phal hi hai. ‘rajanh! jaise pakshiyoan ko marane vala vyadh in pakshiyoan ko marata hai, yah vishesh prakar hi hiansa hi adharm ka svaroop hai[5]. vaise hi jo khoti buddhivala manushy kam aur lobh ke vanshibhoot hokar dharm ke svaroop ko nahian janata, vah ihalok aur paralok mean bhi sab praniyoan ka vadhy hota hai. ‘rajanh! apako yah achchhi tarah jnat hai ki dhan se hi bhogy-samragi ka sangrah hota hai aur dhan ke dvara jo bahut-se kary siddh hote haian, use bhi ap janate haian. ‘us dhan ka abhav hone par athava prapt hue dhan ka nash hone par athava stri adi dhan ke jara-jirn evan mrityu-grast hone par manushy ki jo dasha hoti hai, usi ko sab log anarth manate haian. vahi is samay hamalogoan ko bhi prapt hua hai.. ‘paanchoan jnanendriyoan, man aur buddhi ki apane vishayoan mean pravrit hone ke samay jo priti hoti hai, vahi meri samajh mean kam hai. vah karmoan ka uttam phal hai. is prakar dharm, arth aur kam tinoan ko prithakh-prithakh samajhakar manushy keval dharm, keval arth athava keval kam ke hi sevan mean tatpar n rahe. un sabaka sada is prakar sevan kare, jisase inamean virodh n ho. is vishay shastroan ka yah vidhan hai ki din ke poorvabhag mean dharm ka, doosare bhag mean arth ka aur aantim bhag mean kam ka sevan kare. ‘isi prakar avastha kram mean shastr vidhan yah hai ki ayu ke poorvabhag mean (yuvavastha) kam ka, madhyabhag (praudh avastha) mean dhanaka tatha aantimabhag (vriddh-avastha) mean dharm ka palan kare. ‘vaktaoan mean shreshth! uchit kal ka jnan rakhanevala vidvanh purush dharm, arth aur kam tinoan ka yathavath vibhag karake upayukt samay par un sabaka sevan kare. ‘kuroonandan! niratishay sukh ki ichchha rakhanevale mumukshuoan ke liye yah moksh hi param kalyaprad hai. rajanh! isi prakar laukik sukh ki ichchhavaloan ke liye dharm, arth, kamaroop trivarg ki prapti hi param shrey hai. atah maharaj! bhakti aur yogasahit jnan ka ashray lekar ap shighr hi ya to moksh hi prapti kar lijiye athava dharm, arth, kam roop trivarg ki prapti ke upay ka avalamban kijiye. jo in donoan ke bich mean rahata hai, usaka jivan to art manushy ke saman duahkhamay hi hai. ‘mujhe maloom hai ki apake sada dharm ka hi aran kiya hai, is bat ko janate hue bhi apake hitaishi, sage-sambandhi ap ko (dharmayukt) karm evan purusharth ke liye hi prerit karate haian. maharaj! ihalok aur paralok mean bhi dan, yajn, santo ka adar, vedoan ka svadhyay aur saralata adi hi uttam eanv prabal dharm mane gaye haian.[6]‘purushasianh rajanh! yadyapi manushy ke doosare sabhi gun maujood hoan to bhi yah yajn adi roop dharm dhanahin purush ke dvara nahian sampadit kiya ja sakata. ‘maharaj! is jagath ka mool karan dharm hi hai. is jagath mean dharm se badhakar doosari koee vastu nahian hai. us dharm ka anushthan bhi mahanh dhan se hi ho sakata hai. ‘rajanh! bhikh maangane se, kayarata dikhane se athava keval dharm mean hi man lagaye rahane se dhan ki prapti kadapi nahian ho sakati. narashreshth! brahman jis yachana ke dvara karyasiddhi kar leta hai vah to ap kar nahian sakate, kyoanki kshatriy ke liye usaka nishedh hai. atah ap apane tej ke dvara hi dhan pane ka prayatn kijiye. ‘kshatriy ke liye n to bhikh maangane ka vidhan hai aur n to vaishy aur shoodr ki jivika karane ka hi. usake liye to bal aur utsah hi vishesh dharm haian.

yudhishthir, bhimasen se kahate hai- ‘parth! apane dharm ka ashray lijiye, prapt hue shatruo ka vadh kijiye. mere tatha arjun dvara dhritarashtr putraroopi jangal ko kata daliye. ‘manishi vidvanh danashilata ko hi dharm kahate haian, atah ap us danashilata ko hi prapt kijiye. ap ko is dayaniy avastha mean nahian rahana chahiye.

bhimasen, yudhishthir se kahate hai- ‘maharaj! ap sanatan dharmoan ko janate haian, ap kathor karm karane vale kshatriy kul mean utpann hue haian, jisase sab log bhayabhit rahate haian, atah apane svaroop aur kartavy ki or dhyan dijiye. ‘tab ap rajy prapt kar leange, us samay praja palan roop dharm se apako jis puny phal ki prapti hogi, vah apake liye garhit nahian hoga. maharaj! vidhata ne ap jaise kshatriy ka yahi sanatan dharm niyat kiya hai.

yudhishthir, bhimasen se kahate hai- ‘parth! us dharm ke hin hone par to sangram mean ap upahas ke patr ho jayeange. manushyoan ka apane dharm se bhrasht hona kuchh prashansa ki bat nahian hai. ‘kuroonandan! apane hriday ko kshatriyochit utsah se bharakar man ki is shithilata ko door karake parakram ka ashray le ap ek dhurandan vir purush ki bhaanti yuddh ka bhar vahan kijiye. ‘atmabal hi dhan ka mool hai, isake viparit jo kuchh hai, vah mithya hai; kyoanki hemant rritu mean vrikshoan ki chhaya ke saman vah atma ki durbalata kisi bhi kam ki nahian hai. ‘kuntikumar! jaise kisan adhik annarashi upajane ki lalasa se dhany ke alp bijoan ka bhoomi mean parityag kar deta hai, usi prakar shreshth arth pane ki ichchha se alp arth ka tyag kiya ja sakata hai. apako is vishay mean sanshay nahian karana chahiye. jahaan arth ka upayoang karane par usase adhik ya saman arth ki prapti n ho vahaan us arth ko nahian lagana chahiye, kyoanki vah (paraspar) gadhoan ke sharir ko khujalane ke saman vyarth hai.

bhimasen, yudhishthir se kahate hai- ‘nareshvar! isi prakar jo manushy alp dharm ka parityag karake mahanh dharm ki prapti karata hai, vah nishchay hi buddhimanh hai. ‘mitroan ke sampann shatru ko vidvanh purush apane mitroan dvara bhedaniti se usamean aur usake mitroan mean phoot dal dete haian, phir bhedabhav hone par mitr jab usakoan tyag dete haian, tab ve us durbal shatru ko apane vash mean kar lete haian. ‘rajanh! atyant balavanh purush bhi atmabal se hi yuddh karata hai, vah kisi any prayatn se ya prashansa dvara sab praja ko apane vash mean nahian karata. ‘jaise madhumakkhiyaan sangathit hokar madhu nikalane vale ko mar dalati haian, usi prakar sarvatha sangathit rahane vale durbal manushyoan dvara balavanh shutr bhi mara ja sakata hai. rajanh! jaise bhagavanh soory, prithvi ke ras ko grahan karate aur apani kiranoan dvara varsha kar ke un sab ki raksha karate haian, usi prakar ap bhi prajaoan se kar lekar unaki raksha karate hue soory ke hi saman ho jaiye. ‘rajendr! hamor bap-dadoan ne jo kiya hai, vah dharm poorvak prithvi ka palan bhi prachinakal se chala ane vala tap hi hai; aisa hamane suna hai. ‘dharmaraj! kshatriy tapasya ke dvara vaise puny lokoan ko nahian prapt hota, jinhean vah apane liye vihit yuddh ke dvara vijay athava mrityu ko aangikar karane se prapt karata hai. ‘ap par jo vah sankat aya hai, us samabhav-si ghatana ko dekhakar log vah nishchayapoorvak manane lage haian ki soory se us ki prabha aur chandrama se usaki chaandani bhi door ho sakati hai. ‘rajanh! sadharan log bhinn-bhinn sabhaoan mean sammilit hokar athava alag-alag samooh-ke-samooh ikatthe hokar apaki prashansa aur duryodhan ki nianda se hi sambandh rakhanevali batean karate haian. ‘maharaj! isake siva, yah bhi sunane mean aya hai ki brahman aur kuruvanshi ekatr hokar b di prasannata ke sath apaki saty pratijna ka varnan karate haian. ‘unaka kahana hai ki apake kabhi n to moh se, n dinata se, n lobh se, n bhay se, n kamana se aur n dhan ke hi karan se kianchinmatr bhi asaty bhashan kiya hai. ‘raja prithvi ko apane adhikar mean karate samay yuddhajanit hiansa adi ke dvara jo kuchh pap karata hai, vah sab rajy prapti ke pashchath bhari dakshina vale yajnoan dvara nasht kar deta hai. ‘nareshvar! brahman ko bahut-se-gaanv aur sahasroan gauean dan mean dekar raja apane samast papoan se usi prakar mukt ho jata hai, jaise chandrama andhakar se. 'maharaj! keval dharm mean hi lage rahanevale kisi bhi naresh ne aj tak n to kabhi prithvi par vijay payi hai aur n aishvary tatha lakshmi ko hi prapt kiya hai. ‘jaise baheliya lubdh hriday vale chhote-chhote mrigoan ko kuchh khane ki vastuoan ka lobh dekar chhal se unhean pak d leta hai, usi prakar nitijn raja shatruoan ke prati kootaniti ka prayog karake unase rajy ko prapt kar leta hai. ‘nripashreshth! ap janate haian ki asuragan devataoan ke b de bhaee haian, un se pahale utpann hue haian aur sab prakar se samriddhishali haian to bhi devataoan ne chhal se unhean jit liya. ‘maharaj! mahabaho! is prakar balavanh ka hi sab par adhikar hota hai, yah samajhakar ap bhi kootaniti ka ashray le apane shatruoan ko mar daliye. ‘yuddh mean arjun ke saman koee dhanurdhar athava mere saman gadadhari yoddha n to hai aur n age hone ki sambhavana hai. ‘pandunandan! atyant balavanh purush bhi atmabal se hi yuddh karata hai, isaliye ap savadhani poorvak mahanh utsah aur atmabal ka ashray lijiye[7].
